Engine Emissions Light after pre cat removal Help

Featured Replies

HI

I have a 2006 Octavia 1.4.

I recently had a problem with my pre Cat which needed replacing. Instead of spending almost a grand on a replacement I went ahead and had the pre cat removed.

Problem solved...sr so I thought.

Now I have an engine emissions warning light come on, and the engine has selected an emergency program till I get to a garage.

Please can any of you give me some advice on how to resolve this, I've heard of people talk about a re-map, but not sure what that means. I'm assuming it is because the pre cat was removed.

Is a re-map expensive? What does it entail?

Help!T

thanks in advance

It will prob need coding out on vcds because the ecu will still be looking for the precat but it obviously isnt there so it will go into limp home mode.

You cannot code it out, it must be mapped out of the ECU software. To do this you must get your engine remapped by the likes of Shark who offer a stage 0 remap that maintains the current power but bypasses the lambda probe. A remap will cost you nearly half the cost of having the CAT put back in.

Thank you for your reply, and apologies for my very limited knowledge.....but please can you explain "need coding out on vcds" ? Is this something I can do or is it a trip to the garage?

much appreciated

Thanks for the reply.........I'm in Ireland, and see Shark are in the UK.......will start a search.

Id go with what the post bellow me said as it sounds the same process to me as a dpf rrmoval for diesels. If I was you id contact your nearest vag specialist. But not a dealer as they are some times of no help.

I don't know if Shark have a dealer based in Ireland but they do offer their STS unit that allows you wherever you are to map the car. We have at least one member in New Zealand running a Shark map.
