Stolen Car, but not your usual.

Colleague had his stolen from his home.

The issue he had was which insurance was liable. Home insurance said it wasn't covered as a business item, business insurance said was down to the home insurance as wasn't on company business, within company property or vehicle at the time of theft.

Iirc in the end company had to swallow the loss.

Exactly, up the company to make sure its assets are protected. That could I suppose mean they insist you insure their laptop, but that's a somewhat obtuse solution.

We went out for a little walk today & as we passed through a cul de sac we walked past a 62 plate ford transit with the keys in the ignition & nobody around,it was a one man band plumber,it isnt a bad area & the cul de sac is a quiet one but if his van got knicked then all his tools go & his livelyhood.......madness.

Problem is leave it in the car at all times and it's not covered due to not taking due care.

Sometimes you won't win against insurance companies

It's his business, what's he going to do? Sack himself? :D

Maybe not but the Information Commissioner can fine up to £500,000 now for lost/stolen personal information and having your laptop in a secure place doesn't cut it. And he's dishing them out like sweeties.

The car has been found.

I wasn't aware but all the cars have a tracker fitted at the company but it wasn't activated on this car. However they switched it on and found it parked up, all laptops and keys still inside.
