Alloy tyre sizes

Featured Replies

Hullo,

I am curious as to what effect fitting greater profile tyres might have on the overall handling of the Felly.

My alloys are 175/60 R14; however this seems to yield a very limited choice when it comes to new tyres. Searching for 175/65 R14s means a much wider choice of tyres. Other than the discrepancy with the speedo, how will might such a change affect the handling?

Cheers,

JJ

175/60 already gives quite a high sidewall, so a little more is unlikely to make much difference - it's not quite the same as moving up from a low profile! I think clearance in the wheel arch would be more of an issue.

I know what you mean about the limited choice - I've swapped SWMBO's i10 onto 165/65 as I couldn't find any decent make all seasons in 175/60. The rolling circumference is only 0.8% larger (you'll get 2% difference over the life of the tyre, from new to minimum depth) and there are a much greater range of tyres available. Good luck with your search!

If you need any 175/60s in the meantime I have some in the car parts for sale forum.

I am running 185 50 16s and its tight on front suspension coil spring

And makes my speedo bang on 30 being 30 if thats any help to you

Mines running 185/60/14's, its a common size so lots of choice :) not got any clearance issues (but not had it in the air to see how close they are to the spring platforms.
