Monte Carlo or Elegance (both 105 CRTDI) Opinions please

Featured Replies

Just wondering what the difference is in these two (apart from the obvious styling). If i were to consider changing the octy in a couple of years for a 105 Bhp TDI what would i gain/ lose out on in either of these.

I assume they have the same number of gears (5 or 6??), the Monte Carlo has lower profile alloy/ tyres and harder suspension, but the Elegance comes with standard Climate and cruise control etc??

Also, like for like what would the difference bein cost of a 3 year old and how do the insurance groups stack up?

I could look up all this myself, but would rather have opinions from those who have the cars and can vouch for them.

P.s. i would probably think of remapping/ tuning box at some stage, so would the habdling of the Monte Carlo suit this better.

Thanks

Colm

Just drive them both then you'll know which you prefer. Simples

Horses for courses really

I've had both, Monte first, then chopped it in for an Elegance estate, both 105bhp diesels

Monte was great - sporty looks inside and out, but lacking in toys unless you spec it up

Elegance gives the option of an estate which has a huge boot for a small car, and has a much better standard spec - I've had Bilstein suspension fitted on mine so it handles as well as the Monte, if not better

Personally I'm glad I changed, and am very happy with the Elegance

I test drove both and preferred the interior of the elegance. Not a lot in it with respect to the drive, however the elegance felt smoother on the poorer road surfaces. Also slightly cheaper insurance, 0% vat and 0% apr on the elegance helped me choose!

Ideally I'd love a set of Monte sports seats in the Elegance just to hold you a bit more firmly in place on the corners :)

Just swapped our 2010 Elegance TSI 85 for a new lightly optioned Monte TSI 86 and despite the lack of 'toys' compared to the Elegance, I would take the Monte every time.

Or you could just get the elegance with sport seats and sport chassis. That way you get the best from both :(

I'm not sure sports seats are an option in the UK without checking the brochure

0% vat and 0% apr on the elegance helped me choose!

That was also a major factor :), as I think the Elegance was the only Fabia left with 0% VAT free and 0% finance

Both my Monte and Elegance were cars already in the system, as I hate waiting x weeks for a new car

The Monte had the spare wheel option

The additional features on the Elegance, standard or otherwise, were maxidot, cruise, sunroof, rear parking sensors, climatronic, front centre armrest (rarely used)

I have a 105 diesel elegance. Fuel consumption don't believe what the brochure says and if you don't do a lot of miles and mainly town driving you have the DPF to deal with that's why ordered a petrol yeti this week.

The Monte is a base spec Fabia with some extra styling added, The Elegance is the top of the range Fabia with all the toys. You can spec up a Monte to have the same level of toys as the Elegance, but you end up paying more. If you like your toys then get the Elegance, but if you like styling over standard equipment get the Monte.

Well in sweden we cant pic just the sport seats. But there is a "Sports package" which includes the seats, 3 spoke stearing wheel and some minor leather gadgets if i remember correctly. (The leather gadgets is already included in the elegance package...)

edit: Just had a look at SUK and it appears that you cant add the sports package to a Fabia in the UK :S It also seems as if a Elegance spec Uk car is far from the same as a Elegance specced Fabia in Sweden.

For example we get heated front seats, cornering front fog lights, ESC, storage boxes for both seats, integretad front washers, electric windows in the rear, third rear headrest for free in the elegance specced Fabia.

I thought the Monte was based on the SE Fabia with the extra sporting options of the lowered suspension, 17 inch wheels and the bodykit?

That's a great standard spec, and very tight of Skoda not to offer it to us in the UK :(

But how much will that cost over there? If Swedish car prices are anything like those in Norway it will be horrendously expensive!

Yes, but that's probably car prices generally, regardless of spec

My thought was more that if I was paying through the nose for a car over there (regardless of trim level) I'd want a few extras lol. Having said that most of the higher cost probably comes from government tax levels and they will be earning higher salaries anyhow.

Actually my car with elegance spec, sport chassi, sport package, sunset, black magic paint, reverse sensor and winter tires cost about 13000gbp. Mines a 86hp TSI

I have an elegance and am more than happy with it, i had heard the the Monte was very hard regarding suspension on the uk's crappy roads, not ideal for daily driving really, i would say that if a sporty car is needed then forget the Monte (as its just bling and tinsle that separates it), go for a VRS instead and get real sports performance, otherwise i would opt for the Elegance.
