Coil light question?

Featured Replies

Just a question regarding the coil light? During cold mornings starting the car as normal, waiting for the coil light to go out then turn it over the car doesn't exactly struggle but doesn't start as easily as when warm. Then the coil light comes back on for a few seconds and goes back out. Drives like normal the power is fine and on the second and other starts of the day no more coil light after the start and starts much better. Is this something I should put up with for the cold and not worry about? A coil pack or something on its way out? Or a dodgy underpowered battery? I don't like ignoring it so hoping for battery! Car is just out of warranty so 3 years old doesn't get driven daily as not used for commuting but has been used for average mileage 37000ish.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe worth getting looked at but it could be time for new glowplugs or the glowplug controller has determened the engine temp low and bringing on the glowplugs again.

glowplugs keep working for upto 180 seconds after starting to keep the engine within emission levels etc.

Would this bring up a fault code and show which (hopefully) one was at fault?

Cheers. And I thought a battery was going to be expensive!

Its might yeh probably as a pending code.

Sorry, that's what you get when someone that doesn't know what he talking about still read forums! Thanks grizzle at least you worked out what I was on about. I've got a friend with a code reader and VCDS stuff so ill get the codes read.

I was given a good tip a while ago for cold morning starts when I had a diesel. Turn the ignition on until the glow plug light goes out. Turn the ignition off then on again until the glow plug light goes out for the second time. Then start the engine. Seems this gives the glowplugs some extra heat and makes starting easier. Thanks.
