Rattly car

Featured Replies

Hi there. Car coming up to 7 years old now, only 53K on her though.

I've noticed more and more rattles. The windscreen (or certainly around the dashboard) rattles. My glovebox rattles. There's a new one that's now appearing to be emanating from around the steering wheel or footwell area.

Is my car about to fall apart????

The colder it is the more my car rattles.

Come summer it'll be like new again!

Yeah i noticed this my red one is 7+ years old now and significantly more rattley than the new one. Worryingly got a really bad rattle and squeek from the rear otherday eventually traced the noise to the rear folding seats wen't fully located properly so the little orange tab was sticking up both side i can only think the cold had made them pop open as i remember closing them properly when i hoovered last.

Oh yeah, I think I need roll bar bushes. Everytime I take a sleeping policeman it sounds like a creaky old bed.

Wishbone bushes. Spray with WD40 and the noise will go for a bit. Sometimes they still do it with new bush's too. In America there was a recall for a new type/size of bush but we didn't get it in europe for the Golf/Octavia platform.

Try the lower front bushes first with a squirt of WD4o and see if the squeak goes, cheaper than replacing with new ones and then finding out they do exactly the same thing.

I have used dashboard polish to stop a lot of rattles in the Yeti, spray it around the clocks, centre console etc works ok and now only have one or two rattles left to find.

As above though, they disappear in the summer,
