Water Help

Featured Replies

Ok I know door leaks have been well covered, I have had this issuie myself on and off for two years. I have stopped the leaks on all but the front passenger side footwell.

I have done all the same things as on the other door to no joy. One soaking wet footwell and its driving me very mad any ideas and and help would be great. The only thing I can think of is a new rubber door seal. The footwell was dry until a month ago so very confused, thanks all.

Maybe you have concealed water blocked in your seal and when the temperatures drop it freezes thus causing a crack in your seal maybe? Sorry just a guess really.. because the way water gets in is through the door seal.. is the inside of the door fabric wet? and if so then how high up is it?

Check the carpet and padding at the front of the well. It could also be a leaking windscreen and leaking down the bulkhead.

Thanks for your replys the front part of the carpet and padding is bone dry, the pollen filter is dry too. The carpet and the padding is soaked only in the central area, I will order a new door seal. I have sealed the door carrier and the door card at the front is plastic so no wet fabric on the door card.

cant you sit in the car with the door card off while some one hoses around the door and window?? you could maybe see where the leak is coming from then. would be a shame to replace the door seal it still not cure it

Thanks will have to do that in warmer weather as only have a shared parking are with no cover and to be honest a new door seal is only £25. Still cant understand how it was soaking and I fixed it to then soaking again a few months later. The door carrier is well sealed up with sealant better than any bathroom in the country lol, its such a shame as I love the car but its getting close to me giving up and selling her for a Honda Civic seen a nice 58 plate type S.

you did seal the rivet heads too didnt you?

Look at Honda sites - you'll see they are notorious for leaks!

I have bolts not rivets on the carriers. I have to say my new black and decker dustbuster that can be used for water and fluid spills has done a very good job of removing alot of water so that will help for now. I will order a new door seal. Can anyone help with how to remove the trim as I have no idea and the haynes manual does not show it at all. Thanks for the replys

Ok I think I have found how its getting in after a fight to lift the carpet and undlay found a rubber round seal in the middle of the floor, it was split and was not sitting flush. I removed it to find a hole and putting my finger through saw it as I looked under the car, I use a car wash the does a under car wash so the water must have been pushed up through the split seal and soaked the underlay and carpet. After taking it in doors the seal that is found it was badly split as it has a inner and outer band, after super glue and clear sealant repair I put it back in the hole and then sealed around it with sealant.

I will have to order a new one from Skoda anyway but hope this now stops water getting in as its the last wet foot well for now, I have placed a round plastic container over to protect it as it drys and left the carpet and undrelay pulled up for now. I will post back if this is the fix fingers crossed hey. Thanks all for the advice given about my Skoda swimming pool lol

Hi all wel I have a new gromet for the foot well and its been upgraded from the original one, which makes me think that it has caused problems in the past. The carpet and underlay is drying out well and I am now sure it was the combination of a car wash that washes the underside of the car and the very badly split gromet letting water in was the cause so just wanted to let people know

Hi again it did not sort it so how easy is it to get to the scuttle drains to check if they are blocked as I can see no other way the water is getting in. But the confusing thing is the bulkhead matting is dry and the pollen filter is dry.

  • Author

Right its not the scuttle drains its the original cause from months ago, the ridge the door seal on the back passenger side had blown and rusted up allowing water run through. After a new door seal and cleaning up the ridge it was sealed on with sealant. I then sealed the door seal at the bottom to the car, this seal has gone in one small space and the water is getting back in and running down a plastic channel to the front footwell. I have stuck waterproof tape over the whole area for now until I get a warm day to reseal the bloody thing, so its not always the door carrier etc a previous owner must have given the ridge a knock with something in the past to damage it. This is my final update just in case somene ever has the same problem.

Without pictures I'm finding it impossible to understand what you've found and done here, sorry.

so it was the ridge that holds the seal on that was bent stopping the seal from seating correctly ?

  • Author

Yes thats right the ridge that the door seal presses down on to. Thats the big rubber door seal that the door sits against when shut.

try putting an old short piece of a rag, stick it in the small gap and run it back out towards the door, only a small piece needed i done it to mine as water was holding at that point, it will absorb the water and prevent it from tracking over the seal, worth a try.

Thanks will give it a go, however the proper fix will be in warm weather to lift up the trim and using sealant seal the area up from the inside including sticking the trim down with sealant.
