Go to TPS and get the VAG parts. Quantum Platinum PD Oil is only 20 quid per 5 litres and the filters aren't any more expensive than anywhere else.

I use NGK glow plugs as the factory fit bosch ones failed in under 4 years of use.

Give tps the reg and let them get it all. Genuine parts

I'm looking for some oil too. Called TPS they want £27.30 for 5w30 Quantum stuff.

ECP has the Triple QX fully synthetic 5w40 for £23.23 with 25% discount. Both are 5 litres.

Is the triple QX stuff any good?

Interesting I pick up Quantum Platinum for 20 quid in November. As long as it is 505 01 spec it will be fine.

Best ive used

Or the later 507 spec is also fine I believe?

i use the quantuim oil brands 5w30 longlife 3 for the winter and i'm going to use 5w40 in the summer, i paid £28.87, oil was only £19.35, sump plug £1.43 and oil filter £3.28 + vat.

+1 for tps..... but why change sump plug ??

threads get worn, or if they get a problem in any way - itll skip or thread the sump, dont overtighten and change plug regularly, a sump can be a pain of a job, and when it happens you will have no oil in engine, and no car to use

Its the sump gasket not the plug itself thats important, but I think they come as one piece on the vrs so thats why people call it the sump plug (with copper gasket)

Its cos its copper...will crush and over time you will eventually rip out the sump thread. Whats cheap, new sump or a £1 gasket each time.

Probably get away with reusing each gasket once but why skimp when oil is the costly part anyway ???

Doh lofty just beat me to it lol

mine wasnt copper it looked like an alloy similar to what a dowty washer is made of ?

They not copper washers.

Almost every vw uses the same sump plug. Washer is pressed on and shouldn't be reused and for the sake of 90p I don't know why people don't replace them every oil change.
