Hi all,

My car has all of a sudden started to sound different. It's difficult to describe, but it's almost like the exhaust is blowing (but it isn't!).

I noticed it as I came home on Friday night, I came along a dual carriageway, off at my exit, then I immediately climb a hill and the car just sounded different to usual as I accelerated. It will only make the noise under load, sounds ok when driving along steadily.

Plenty of snow here so I've not done any investigation yet. I know it's quite vague, but any ideas??

Which area of the car sounds worse? front/rear/middle?

Yeah it would help if I'd said! It's coming from the front, as if it's the engine?!

Both my TFSI and the TSI have a distinctive whooshing noise under full throttle above 3k or so. It was much more distinct after the remap on my TFSI

Same here - although have noticed that the cold weather brings a different engine / exhaust tune so wonder if it's just a characteristic of the car?

Check the catalytic converter?

When mine was on its way out (2.0FSi) it made a sort of rasping sound as you accelerated.
