DSG question...

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a question about the DSG 'box. When slowing down to a stop in my 10 plate octy vRS TSI, it almost feels as though the clutch disengages too late. There's a very slight judder, like there would be in a manual if you left it a bit too long to press the clutch pedal down. Does this sound normal for these or is something wrong? The car and DSG are new to me. Cheers.

I've never driven a Petrol DSG, but my diesel DSG certainly does not do this, and it sounds wrong. What RPM does it dip to when it does this?

I'd take it back to the garage and get them to look at it.

It's literally just before the car comes to a stop. As though the clutch disengages just as the judder starts, like it's a moment too late.

We have a VW Golf 1.9 TDI with this box in part ex (Volvo mechanic) i just serviced that and it seems to do the same thing, its an 08 plate and has about 90k on it though! wonder if its a fault or a characteristic?

Mine doesn't do it either

Sent from my iPhone using my thumbs

It doesn't sound right, but we could do with hearing from another TSI DSG owner.

I'm wondering if it's adjustment on the switch at the pedal or something, like it doesn't know the brake pedal is pressed. If you brake fairly sharply you never notice it, but if you gently feather the pedal, like when you're crawling in traffic gently on and off the brakes, then you tend to notice it.

My DSG gearbox and my brothers DSG both Tsi vrs's don't judder when slowing down. They don't judder at all. Best to get it checked out

Mine doesn't do this either.

I think as above the suggestion of the brake pedal switch.

I think they can be screwed/unscrewed to adjust the point at which the switch it triggered by the pedal.

I have the same and im not worried about it.

Mine does not do this. I assume yours is still in warranty?

I'd take it back. Can't harm.

Best to leave it be. I am so pedantic about my car, that every squeak I hear - I get paranoid. Yes my does that, yes mine also makes a weird noise while downshifting from 3 to 2 coming up to roundabouts. Can anyone else in the car hear it or feal it - NO. It is a characteristic of the DSG box, and we ( pedantic kind ) need to learn to live with it. Investigate further if you dont like what i'm saying, but trust me people will keep telling you - no mine doesnt do it. No mine is smooth. *******s, they just cant hear or feel it.

I'm pedantic about noises etc too but I get no noises when it downshifts or when coming to a stop or when setting off etc.

It might be a "characteristic" but it shouldn't do it. If that was the case then they all would do it.

Phil

Its hard to explain, so i'll try to use better words. In my case when "it" happens, it doesn't feel like a "bad" noise - "bad" meaning something going wrong. It sounds like it could be smoother than it actually is. Ive read about it ( DSG ) on VW forums and to my best knowledge, at least in my case, it is totally normal.

Plus mine is diesel which might be different from the OP's TSI.

It is a characteristic of the DSG box

It definitely is not a characteristic of DSG.

It definitely is not a characteristic of DSG.

It is definitely a very constructive and helpful reply.

Whatever........it's still a factuality correct reply.

My constructive replys are earlier in the thread.

Thanks all for your comments.

I've done a few more miles in it today and I'm sure it's just that I can feet the down-shifts as it slows down. There's no noise, and passengers don't notice it. It's faultless otherwise. In normal driving the changes can't be felt at all. I might nip it to Skoda, but I don't now think it's anything wrong.

My DSG does this when braking slowly down to a stop. I thought it was fairly normal too but then i've heard mixed reviews. It's like the second lag when stepping on the gas in the DSG, its a mixed bag of responses of it happening to other people.

I think i'll still get it checked out when i take it to be serviced next month.

Mine might occasionally give a very little judder, nothing much it also can be a bit jerky on the downshift from 3 to 2 approaching a roundabout, the garage couldn't find anything wrong with it at the last service. I put that down to pressing the throttle just as the car is expecting to downchange on a trailing throttle and confusing it a bit. It will only have about 32,000 miles on the clock when it is serviced in April but I think I will take the opportunity to have the gearbox oil and filter changed.

Yeh on the note of oil and filter change.

I had it in my head it was 40,000 miles or 4 years whichever comes first but then looking at the service book it says next to DSG oil and filter change (60,000km only). Which I take to mean that there is no time schedule only miles for this?

Phil

That's correct.

It's not time limited, just 40,000 miles.

Thanks.

I've got another 20,000 to go then!

Phil

mine was doing exactly what you describe. not all the time.

its been for a service and new firmware/software installed for the DSG, I didn't notice it happen all afternoon or last night.

perhaps see a dealer
