New or nearly new vRS Octavia estate?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm hoping for a bit of advice if anyone can help as I'm looking at purchasing an Octavia vRS estate (petrol) as I need a family wagon for forthcoming patter of tiny feet!

Has anyone managed to negotiate a great deal on a new vRS in the last couple of months or would I be better off buying a nearly new and saving some of the inevitable depreciation (particularly when the new model comes out in the next few months!)?

The best I can find so far on the net is a new vRS estate for £18k without any extras (so £18.5k with metallic paint before adding any other odds and sods). The nearly new car I'm looking at is only 8 months old and is nearly £2k less.

Any thoughts or comments would be most welcome and thanks in advance for your time!

Cheers,

T

You're running short of time to place a factory order for a current MkII Octavia. I believe the dealers are now only accepting orders for estates, but I'm guessing with the MkIII being imminent this will stop soon too.

£18,000 still sounds quite pricey for a petrol, I'm sure I recall a few members on here paying that for a fully loaded factory order.

Do you know if Skoda are still offering the 0% VAT deal on the Octavia?

When you say you have looked online have you tried drivethedeal.com? These guys are usually hard to beat on price.

Congrats on the good news. Being really practical, save the £2k and spend it on the kids - they cost a fortune! Don't think there's going to be much extra enjoyment to be had buying new - £2k+ for basically your pick of paint etc. seems a lot of money if the alternative is that you can find a cared for nearly new that you like the colour of.

Once the new vRS comes out this year they'll drop in value again - for all of us :-( so why not keep as much of your money in the first place? £16k seems around the average dealer price for a very tidy, low mileage year old model. Much prefer the sound of those figures.

Would you consider anything a little older but from the Skoda Approved search? Some tidy stock and perhaps buy a couple of years extra warranty and save even more for the family / sympathetic remap / ....winter tyres! :giggle:

I'm (probably) getting an Octavia vRS estate diesel as a company car, so although I can't comment on retail deals available, I can tell you that I've been advised that the last production run for the current Octy vRS estate (might be non-vRS too, not too sure on that one) is 1st March. Advice from my dealer, whom spoke to Skoda Customer Services, is that once slots are all sold that's it. No extra capacity. I was advised that they hope an order the end of this week will be okay. But so knows; could be fine for another month, could be sold out tomorrow.

i was told that you can't get a new hatch of any type, and that they are still building estates, but only the non-vRS versions.

If you want a vRS it has to be a Blackline diesel estate, and they are beginning to run out of those

you can't build new ones, you have a choice of ones that are built already

In your position (congrats by the way), I'd go nearly new.

I bought new in Summer 2010. Was great fun and I got the exact spec I wanted, but within a few weeks you will pick up marks, stone chips etc etc, especially with kids.

I won't go new again.

Good luck with your search!

I was told after christmas by my local dealer that it was still possible to factory order a vRS estate to spec and that there was two maybe three months left to run on production before the Mk3 estate starts to be built.

I may be wrong but im still holding with the notion that they are still building vRSs but have limited option choices to reduce build complexity but youd need to get an order in pretty quickly to miss the boat.

Personally id probably go nearly new, there are a couple of nice low mileage 12 plate TSi cars on Autotrader (at Skoda dealerships) for the 15.5k mark; i reckon you could easily negotiate a £500/1000 discount on one of those.

Its also probably a good time to buy one as contrary to some of the comments above regarding further drops in value, I personally think values will firm up certainly until the new vRS becomes commonplace on dealer forecourts and Skoda begin offering deals on them. Diesels whilst not as fast/fun are probably a better bet as whilst they cost a bit more to buy their residual value down the line is a fair bit better, Ive found they are cheaper to finance too despite being a more expensive car. Worth taking into account i think.

Can you hold off until the Mk3 (hatch) hits the show rooms? that might knock a bit of the used Mk2 (all variants) in your favour.

I wouldn't buy new again unless the numbers added up in my favour. 1 or 2yr old with a year or two of proper warranty would be my choice next time.

I bought my car in November and the dealer told me I couldn't build it, I wanted a Silver estate with RLS.

I was given a selection of possible cars, in the end i bought race blue

Thanks all for the feedback.

Looks like I just need to get my negotiating hat on this weekend and see where I get!
