Appalling stock situation for parts

Featured Replies

My car has been off the road since last Thursday.

Today the dealership find out from suk that there are no egr valves available until at least the first week in feb.

My car has done over 80,000 miles and is notmnder Skoda warranty. (I do have 3rd party)

Because the car is out of warranty Skoda will not supply me with a car.

Is it my fault that they don't have the part???

I would not do a remap.

is the EGR totally ****ed? You could try cleaning it if it's not.

Surely TPS or similar suppliers must stock EGR valves?

As you have a 3rd party warranty, could you take it to an independent garage and get them to do it?

I could go to an Indy, but would really want to use a Skoda specialist and they would not be able to get the part either.

I am going to call suk again tomorrow to seeing they can put out a message to all dealers to see if anyone has one, but I doubt it,

Just annoyed with suk. If my local dealer palmers in Watford were not so brilliant I would have to hire a car at a cost of £300 or so.

Well it is of course up to you, but if it were me I'd get it to an indy to do it.

Eurocarparts stock the EGR valves. Non genuine, but it is made by Pierburg so not bad. It's not like it's a cam belt or something critical, you'd be safe using a non genuine EGR valve.

It's an easy job to change it too......any garage could easily do it......you could even do it yourself if it weren't for the warranty.

I think pierberg make the original valves, which can be picked up from GSF for a very reasonable price.

I'd just do that to be honest and get your car back on the road. Of course if they can get you stock in time for the snow going, I might not bother, but if not ...

my genuine dv valve from skoda i fitted last month is made by pierburg, so a replacement part egr of the same brand will surely be just as good.

someone has to make the parts for skoda, for instance i bought a new fan motor from eurocarparts a hell of a lot cheaper than a genuine part, is was made by valeo guess who made the original part when i took it out.

just trying to ease your mind about quality of independent sourced parts!

I did wonder if Pierburg made the official part......as you say, there are only a limited number of manufacturers in the world who make car parts!

I serviced my Octavia last month.....I had the option of buying a genuine VAG oil filter or a Mann filter for a few quid less. I bought the genuine oil filter and when I took it out of the VAG box and looked at it closely.......guess who made it........that's right, Mann!
