boost leak test

Featured Replies

Im thinking i may have a small boost leak on the mk1 VRS. When i do a boost leak test should it hold the pressure? I blocked off throttle body hose, pressurised through the TIP with the puck valve blanked and oil cap off. The gauge on the inflator slowly dropped down? Is this normal? Any help appreciated

It will lose a bit but what you should be able to do is spot the leaks from the hissing noises.

So if hoses are 100% air tight i will hold all pressure? Im testing to about 15-20PSI

Are you plugging the end of the intake chain at the throttle body from the inlet? This should be airtight. Some soapy spray can be handy to identify leaks too

Im in effect pressurising from the inlet pipe thorugh the turbo, through the FMIC and upto the throttle body. So this run should hold full test pressure?

I would say so
