Brake pad warning light.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Brake warning light came on last week so I bought new pads with sensor and changed the front pads. However the old pads had no sensor on them?! Looks like it was the first time they had ever been changed as well. In the end I had to cut the wire sensor off as there was nowhere to plug it into. Warning light is still on and the new brakes don't seem to have made a difference. Do I need to change the back ones as well or could it be something else?

Welcome to the forum.

Was the brake fluid level OK?

I take it the Front pads were far enough down that they needed changing.

You will need to get the Drums off and check the rear shoes and brake cylinders.

What age or mileage is the car?

Do you think that the brake fluid has been changed at 2 or 3 years old and then it might need done after a further 2 years?

Maybe the service book or an invoice in the folder might be a clue to the service history.

Thanks. There was plenty of fluid in it and the pads only had about 1000 miles left at a push. Its an 08 reg, 41k on the clock. I'll get the rear ones checked out but I reckon they haven't been touvhed since new so probably where the problem lies

There is no sensor for the back shoe/pad wear! with no fluid loss, it has to be the fluid level sensor or the handbrake switch

Im pretty sure any fault of the fluid sensor or handbrake switch would cause a handbrake light to be on instead of a pad warning light.

Ive never know any manufactur that would use the brake pad warning light for anything other then warning about low pads.

Has the fabia got pad wear warning light?

According to the booklet no lol

You have the Brake System light (doubles as you handbrake warning light)

Then the ABS system light :)
