Removal key for Fabia factory radio?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering what keys I need to buy to get the radio out of my '01 Fabia Classic. It has the standard 202 cassette/radio. I just want to make sure I don't buy the wrong ones!

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I should mention I've tried searching t'internet, but I can't find any answers.

i dont kno 100% but im assuming there the same as VW ones?? If they are just go into any audio store (even Halfords) and ask for some flat pins for removing a stereo from a VW.

Some Skoda dealers would even pop it out for free....

Had the same problem with removing a 'symphony' unit from my Octy. The key you're after is 'euro/VW' - halfords

Kenwood keys work if you know anyone with some handy :)

Just drive past your dealer - free removal and they're officially not allowed to sell them to you.

They are allowed to sel them to you. Due to block exemption a dealer has to sell any workshop tools to the public if they want them.

Well that's not what my dealer told me ;)

Either way, personally I don't want to spend the money anyway, I'd rather take the car out for a drive :D

For example, I fitted the (finally arrived) dual cupholder tray into the car. I had removed the old tray + surrounding clips, but found radio had to come out. Drove to the dealer, who removed the radio for me & fitted the tray FOC, put it all back together again. 5 minute job but still, it was free :D

It's easy to get it out anyway, junior hacksaw blade, snap in half, job done. Cheaper too and works with most radios ;)

Even with the propper tool they can be an **** to get out, ended up faffing around with Walkies for ages, cut myself and bled on his lovely vRS seats, whoops.

Thank god for scotchguard!

FIVE SECONDS!

I've bought Kenwood keys - pushed them in - pulled out immediately - no problems...

Handy hint - as you're pulling the keys backwards, also push one upwards at the same time as you're pushing the other downwards - otherwise the keys simply pull back out...

Nipped to Halfords and tried the Euro ones, but there's a notch on them that prevents it going in.

However, the Kenwood ones worked a treat with a bit of jiggling.

Cheers!

Believe me I know how to remove the stereos I do enough. Problem with Walkies was one of the release tags was bent the wrong way so the release keys wouldnt catch them.

I found the easest for me was to slide the keys in so that they depress the latches (not all the way in) and then ease out the radio carefully with a screwdriver around the edge.

I agree anything's likely to be difficult to get out if it isn't installed properly in the first place... However using the Kenwood keys in a correct installation is a breeze...

You'll find quite a few stereos in the VAG range are like this...i used to fit stereos and had to dismantle many dashes in VW's and Audi's to get the stereo out
