Monte Carlo winter wheels & Tyres?

Featured Replies

My wife wants to trade/sell her Mk1 2007 Fabia vrs & buy a 2012 Monte Carlo 1.6 Tdi...I don't want her to part with it...but you know the story...

Any advice on obtaining winter wheels & tyres for the Monte? I would probably like to see alloys on it -but price will obviously enter into it.

Any suggestions on what size wheels are recommended? Any advice on a known good supplier?

Finally, your comments on which manufacturers offer value for money winter tyres will be most welcome.

VMT.

As there a 205 40 17 which works to same size as mk1 vrs 205 45 16. They use same size 15 steel and winter tyre package think its 195 65 15

Were running winters on our MC and likewise decided alloys would look best, so picked up some genuine 15" Skoda Fabia 'Line' alloys from a dealer through ebay for aprox 25% of the RRP and sourced 195/55 Avon Ice Touring ST tyres from mytyres. With tyre fitting the cost came to just over £600, not the cheapest option but the plan is to hang on to the Monte for a while.

Decided to go for the 15" wheels from previous experience running Fabia's with winters, particularly as ours is the much lighter petrol TSI with little weight over the driven wheels. Avon's have also proved to be a better choice than the Bridgestone Blizzak LM30's my lad has on his Fabia in the same size, particularly in the snow.

One or two Yeti owners have sourced after market alloy wheel and winter tyre packages form a firm local to me for a reasonable price delivered, might be worth contacting;

Hi plumber, if you don't mind me asking, how much were the alloys on their own? And are they still available on eBay?

Don't think they are :(

Bought ours from the dealer in Doncaster from memory they were about £90 each collected.

W11a.....

Please tell your other half to reconsider...

If the mk1 vrs is a reliable car stick with it,dont do what I did.I had a mk1 vrs which never skipped a beat in 4 years.bought a monte (tdi 105) and had nothing but trouble

Then gave in and got a mk2 vrs which although is a fun car is also giving me grief

I know we all trade in eventually but its something to bear in mind

I'm a 16" man myself, running an Elegance, but they are all the same fitment at the end of the day

I also ran them on the Monte I had previously

Thank you. That's not too bad then, because I've recently had to buy a brand new one of those (to complete a used set of 3 from ebay) and it cost me £125. I guess you must have meant "aprox 25% off the RRP" instead of "aprox 25% of the RRP". The difference one letter can make. :giggle:

For a minute there I thought I was ripped off... :whew:

+1 from me. First of all, it seems they don't make them like they used to. Also, you will have to deal with dealers again, and they are a joke. The vast majority at least. I hate them with a passion.

If her current Fabia has proven to be reliable, don't get rid of it. It'd be a shame. If she REALLY wants a change, I'd look at something that is not VW-related.
