New Yeti - Spec Opinions

Featured Replies

Hello there my fellow Briskodians. Long time no see...

I'm hopefully trading in our nearly 5.5 year old Octavia vRS TDI in for a new Yeti this weekend but I'm tying myself in knots with just about everything.

As it stands, my wife and I are thinking about the following spec:

Yeti Elegance 4 x 4 2.0 TDI (140) DSG

Black magic

'Annapurna' alloys

Silver roof rails

Floor mats

Tyre pressure monitor

12 speaker sound system

The above spec comes in at about £25.5k list price I think and here is my problem. I see the L & K model with the same engine and DSG comes in at £26.4k (not listed as a spec option in the brochure from my dealer strangely) and it seems there's a helluva lot of kit on it for barely £1k more than the spec listed above. Extras include DAB / Satnav, heated windscreen and panoramic sunroof from what I can gather. The sunroof and satnav would cost £2.5k alone as options on the Elegance.

Question is, which is the better spec to push for and which one is likely to yield the better chance of a discount?

Can of worms but opinions on colour and alloy options are gratefully received, along with any further thoughts on the above.

Hi if you can afford it then it's gotta be l&k for all the equipment. As for what car will give best discount I don't know where you're based but you could try Lee at Preston Motors in East London as he gave me a great deal on a Yeti 1.2 se.

Go for the L&K, it's a no brainer if you are buying now in my opinion.

A Yeti is a Yeti, the L&K isn't some rare limited edition so you should be able to negotiate a discount on either.

If the £1k extra gets you the sunroof and Columbus sat nav you'd need to really hate sunroofs not to go for it.

Annapurnas are the best looking stock alloys available at the moment.

Personally I am not a fan of dark colours on the Yeti as it hides the styling of the wrap round rear screen and body colour B post.

But having said that colour is a very personal choice, I just prefer bright.

I generally agree with the above - I love the full panoramic sunroof - its my most used and favourite option so I'd swing for the L&K as by the time Id added it to the Elegance spec, I'd be well and truly in L&K financial territory.

However, youre likely to get around £2,500 off the Elegance if you push hard enough, I understand what BossFox is saying above, the L&K is not an LE model but theres bound to be good demand for it being such a good flagship and value option - therefore Id guess that the dealer discounts wont be quite so large, especially as its been introduced.

Looking at the pricing once you've agreed discounts would be my advice, but me? Id go for the L&K. :)

Thanks for the responses so far guys, I do appreciate it.

I agree about the L&K being better value for money but it's making the figures stack up before I sign on the dotted line. Budget is flexible to an extent but the L&K may be pushing the boundaries a bit. Having said that, the extra £900 for the L&K model just seems too good an offer not to consider, especially when thinking about resale value later (we're planning on keeping it for around 5 years or so, as we've done with the Octavia.)

The satnav we can take it or leave it but the DAB radio would be nice. Same goes for the panoramic sunroof.

I'm not a huge fan of dark colours, especially black, but we can't agree on what other colour would look best. Silver is always a safe option and we're both on the fence about any of the shades of 'beige'.

Smudger64 - I'll give Lee a ring and see how the conversation goes. I'm planning on ringing a few dealers before Saturday anyway to see where the land lies and for a better idea of a good deal. We may or may not p/x the Octavia as there's someone in the family who's shown an interest in buying it off us but I don't know whether the lack of p/x would give the dealer any more flexibility on discount or whether it wouldn't make any difference?

Something I forgot to mention. My good wife has asked if it can fit 3 x child seats in the rear but I don't think it can.

Whilst we 'only' have 2 children, due to school run arrangements, my wife sometimes carries an extra child home from school and of course he requires a child seat. I would've thought the only arrangement could be 1 child seat in the front (ISOFIX on front seat??) and 2 child seats in the rear. To be honest, the only cars I've seen that could accommodate 3 x child seats in the rear are MPVs such as the Ford Galaxy. Bottom line is I do not want an MPV, not least of which because they look awful but in the case of the Galaxy, they START at £27.5k for the most basic trim level and cheapest diesel / automatic gearbox. With the equivalent options it comes out at nearly £30k!!!

I think Boss Fox has summed it up well. Have a think about shark blue.

It's really difficult deciding on colours, but (although I still like my Muscavado very much) while at the dealer's yesterday I saw a new monster in Steel Grey and remembered that I had been very close to choosing that colour two years ago. I think it's a good compromise between light and dark (ie suits the styling and doesn't show dirt too badly) and I think it looks especially good in the L&K trim I 've seen on You Tube, ie the colour goes well with the silver trim on the rubbing strips, the alloys, and the silver roof rails (and the black bumpers and silver 'skid pans').

As to your other queries, I also think the L&K is a no-brainer in terms of value for money, if you can stretch to it. I have to go back to the dealer next week for a new satnav aerial, and am seriously considering entering a discussion about how much it would cost to swap my current monster for a Steel Grey L&K (although SWMBO thinks it would be a silly waste of money!).

L&K is a no brainer in my book as well...

Colour is hugely subjective, but black (in my book) is the worst colour for a Yeti as it hides the distinctive B-pillar shark fin - and it is also a pain to keep clean and any scratch shows up white and screams from a mile off that the car had been scratched. But each to their own. Silver is very popular in most cars BUT perversely VERY scarce on the Yeti. So in Yeti land it will be a good distinctive choice albeit similar to everything else in the car park... I have a Steel Grey one now and love how the colour varies from grey to blue depending on the clouds (or blue sky) above. My next Yeti? White of course with black Matterhorn wheels. Well tasty.

As to the silver roof rails: again subjective, but they would look fine had the WHOLE rail been silver. As it is, only the middle bit is silver with black fronts and ends, which really looks rediculously silly to my eyes. Again each to their own.

White is a very good colour I think especially with the sunset glass. Well I hope it's ok as that's the colour I have ordered for my SE.

Thanks again for your input guys.

I've come to the conclusion that the L&K is, as some of you have said already, a no brainer and therefore that's the spec we're going for. It is stretching the budget but £4k of extras for £2k more is not something to be sniffed at.

The other reason we're going for the L&K is that come re-sale time, the L&K, being a trim level above the Elegance, should be worth a little more and it's a bit like getting some of your money back on the extras which normally you wouldn't do.

As for colour, I've talked SWMBO out of black for all reasons mentioned already and it's also a swine to keep clean. Stone chips stand out like a sore thumb too as and when they appear. She's put her foot down on any shade of 'beige' which basically leaves us with steel grey or brilliant silver. I'm leaning more towards the silver as it's a good, safe colour but I do like the steel grey too in certain lights.

So, as it stands, we're going for the L&K spec with the 12-speaker sound system and tyre pressure monitor. I haven' specified the spare wheel yet but that's because I don't know how much it will affect the already 'limited' boot space.

I have been offered an Elegance in steel grey with around 3k on the clock with all the toys but the dealer is only knocking off about £2.5k on the new price + all extras listed. As we're not overly desperate for the car at this stage, I can't see the point in going for this one both for the reasons already mentioned in regards to re-sale value, the fact that we'll be the 2nd owner on the car and the asking price is too close to that of a new L&K with the same options.

Interestingly, having rung round a few dealers already, there are some who are prepared to negotiate and others that obviously couldn't give a hoot - average book price for our trade-in (a sought-after car apparently) and £1k off an Elegance? One can only imagine their sales book at the moment is bursting with orders!

This is unfortunately exactly the case. Each dealer is only allocated X amount of Yetis a month - based on previous sales or whatever. So some unscrupulous discount websites have been selling Yetis for a big discount but have been ordering them from the same dealer who had (obviously) gone way over their quota. So instead of waiting X months for their car (like at a dealer within their quota) they waited X + (many months until quota was open again). So get clarity on delivery times as well as discount before you sign the dotted line.

Hi all,

I think the sunroof would put me off....:-)

Although the dab sounds like a good option...however my comment as always. Please skoda let me specify a non leather option:-(
