Service consumables

Featured Replies

Usually change the oil myself but because of of circumstance took the Fabia into the local dealer on Friday for an oil change.

Total was about

If you ask its probably also the disposable gloves, and paper funnel they use to refill. :(

It probably includes the waste-oil disposal too.

Exactly Colin.

Labour time is correct by Skoda books. If I charged every job on what time it actually took me, myself and the company would never make money. You dont just pay for the service, you pay for my superior technical knowledge ;)

And I like to see you jack your car up, remove the oil filter, drain the oil, refil the oil and then dispose of the oil in 15 mins, nah dont think so.

Cant stand the way the society today thinks that garages are allways out to rip people off, most of us are just trying to earn a living (and a mechanics wage is **** poor, take it from one).

Just wait till you get the same level of environmental tax as in Holland. Looking at a fair bit more to dispose of stuff there ;)

We can get fined

Lummox is right...

All they're trying to do is earn some money. Auto dealers don't make money on sales, they make it on services. 2.95 British Pounds doesn't seem like much at all when you flip the rate.

Like said...you pay for their knowledge...;)

The big differance between garages is the labour charge.

I'm sure Lummox will correct me if I'm wrong - All servicing at main dealers is 'menu servicing' which means the manufacturer has established an allowed time to complete a job using the correct methods and tools. A technician will be given x number of jobs to do in his working day, some might take longer than allowed and some may be quicker, the more that can be done in a day then the more the tech can earn for his dealer and himself.

I do think some garages charge over the top for some jobs but I also hate the advocates of getting the local guy down the road to do it at a knock down price. I am sure in many instances these smaller garages will not be following the correct service schedule or using genuine parts and nor will he have the support and knowledge of the main dealers.

'Ya gets what ya pays for' - but that doesn't mean don't shop around, as I said labour charges vary.
