head light washers?

Featured Replies

just noticed that some furbys have head light washers? mine dont? do they come with xeons?

Yeah they are part of the Xenons fit.

WHy is that? My brother has an RX8 and the salesman told him he HAD to have washers for Xenons. Something to do with them overheating if the lens is covered in muck?

It is a legal requirement to have washers with Xenons.

I think it's more to do with the possibility of the beam deflecting, maybe into oncoming traffic if there's a lot of dirt/debris on the lens, hence the legal requirement for washers with Xenons. Never heard about overheating being an issue.

Wardy is right! It is generally considered that if the lens is covered in a lot of muck, the deflection of the beam is considerable - enough to cause much annoyance to oncoming traffic

Also - bad to admit here perhaps ;) - on all cars I've ever owned the headlights + windscreen & mirrors were the only parts of the car that got the amount of cleaning the whole car needed  on a regular basis.

Especially when there is a lot of salt and related gunk on the roads, it can make an enormous difference to visibility. The Xenons have a spray system which works pretty well, but it still builds up the junk from flies mainly... So you will end up cleaning them yourself anyway :(

My Furby is the third car I've had with headlamp washers; the others being an 82 Golf and a 94 Tipo. Can't say I've found any of them to be much use. At least you get the huuuuuuuge washer bottle too though; that's the best bit.

It's also a legal requirement for xenons to come with automatic level adjustment as well as washers.

The washers work for what I'd call 'light cleaning' in that it gets road spray off and it's included mud/salt/other. It does kinda do it's job with that. Flies are a nightmare anyway, as they just smash and stick.

The bigger washer bottle is a definite bonus, as it means being able to not refill it for absolutely ages, first time I filled it was at around 4000 miles, and that was using it regularly. Not a problem :D

I think I've only filled mine twice in almost 11k. And I'm still waiting to find out how loud the warning "Bing" is for that; wondering whether it'll scare the sh@ out of me like the low petrol one does.

It will ;) The worst part is it doesn't go off when you use the washers, it waits 5 seconds and then does it

Yep - and also, it keeps doing it, but only after a while, when it's empty and you drive away.

It is pretty loud - not quite sure how any car manufacturer can claim this improves safety, as it's pretty scary when you first hear it, afterwards you kinda know but it sure is distracting ;)
