Would improving spec up resale value?

Featured Replies

I have a 51 reg Fabia Comfort, but I'm toying with getting cruise control and rear parking sensors fitted. I would only use Skoda parts so no cheap and nasty, likely to go wrong, parts.

But would it up the value of my vehicle in the long run at all? This would be a great influencing factor as it could mean I would be getting at least some of the money back when I sell in maybe 3/4 years time.

I would of course use them, parking sensors would be great for me to have but it would cost a small fortune as I'm not too handy mech use, so labour costs would need adding to the

My previous experience of mentioning extras when trading in a car hasn't seemed to improve the trade-in value at all

That said I've spent around

No , it won't improve your resale value.

If you are selling privately it might make someone pick your car instead of another fabia , but they won't pay any more , especially on a car thats going to be 7 years old.

I did think so, but that was always going to be a sticking point, I'll still add them mind, if nothing else to give me a better car to drive for the minimal price that these cost to fit.

Thankyou

Also, who could fit the rear sensors for me? Dealer the best bet? I don't want to do them myself as I want as close to a factory fit as possible. And how much would they charge roughly?

I know K can do the cruise control and will be contacting him in the next month when I'm certain of funds.

Cruise is well worth having , and if you plan to keep the car another three years then it's only going to cost you a quid a week over that period which is a bargain.

Rear sensors are easy too.

Do a search for my posts regarding it and I also have lots of pics

I saw those but a little afraid I will bodge it quite badly.

Hi Richard

I personally would love rear parking sensors for my Fabia, since without them I've simply stopped things like reverse parking as being too risky with no rear sight of the car behind. When blocked in by some kind person, I take to asking a passer-by to be a second pair of eyes.

With no car knowledge (as you know), I'd be a bit surprised if they would add value since surely all cars will have them by the time you sell on? That's not to say that it isn't a worthwhile investment though, being little more than an insurance excess in the event of a bump.

My 2 cents.

Mo, I find mine hard to reverse park too. I find the rear window is quite high and so front bumpers of other cars disappear all too quickly. I'm constantly getting out and finding I could've gone back a few feet more.

I'll let you know on a final price if you are interested in getting these fitted to your own.

Hi Richard

Yes please

I've seen some 4x4s / people carriers which have a mirror mounted on the back (nothing more elaborate than a motorbike or shaving mirror), but don't know if this is an equivalent or is for checking the antics of the passengers at the back! Nor do I know whether one could be fitted to a Fabia to good effect.

I had thought of mounting some sort of aerial flag (like builders have to carry on long planks), but flags as such are illegal unfortunately.

I will be happy to "watch this space" :)

You would only bodge a rubber rubbing strip though, unlike me when i might kill the entire bumper! Fingers crossed for tomoz!

Good luck Martin - I take it you've got it all worked out in your head now, you should have!!!

Let me know if you struggle. :P

Would it make it easier if I scan in the instructions for you to have a look at??

If you really believe it is easy to fit, then yes. If it's something that can messed then I wouldn't worry.

Dear VRStu

Not if it means I might break a fingernail doing it ;)

In serious vein, yes it would help please since whilst I will likely have neither the tools nor the strength (let alone the competence), it will show me what needs to be done.

This is no bad thing IMO, since some garages can "see me coming" so at least I would have a vague assessment of time etc, most relative to labour time being potentially more costly than parts.

Thank you

Mo
