1.6cr DPF sorted?

Featured Replies

Had a drive in Boss's Octy 1.6 tdi, and was quite impressed, doesn't push you back in the seat like a 130pd would, but a really nice spread of refined power/torque, I'm assuming it's a 105bhp.

The thing is, I've been doing a little research to see how prone these are to DPF issues, and found a lot of posts on the seat cupra forum, but most of these seem to be from around the 2010 period, and haven't seen too much on here. Have VAG changed something in the setup since then?

Our local dealers seem to have got several 2012 1.6tdi S/SE Hatches/Estates at the moment, all around the ~£12k mark, and had thoughts about trading in our '08 Roomster 1.4pd.

This would be my wife's car, only doing around 6k/year on a mixture of typically 4/8/25 mile journeys, sometimes longer. Is this asking for DPF trouble?

If I'm honest I've never actually read a thread on a DPF issue with the 1.6 TDi CR105.

There have been a coupe of sensor issues on the 2.0 CR170 but these haven't been the fault of the DPF.

DPF issues are more likely on the older PD engines.

Most people (including me) would have advised that you avoid the diesel with your wifes mileage but I'm changing my mind as I think they are much, much better now.

I have two diesel Octavia's, both PD's and one that does the same types of mileage as your wife and another which does 160 motorway miles each day.

Guess which one has been faultless after 30,000 miles/4.5 years? The one that trundles a few miles up the road and back each day! Never even seen the DPF light!

Guess which one regens regularly with a the DPF light popping on as soon as I get caught in traffic? Yep the one that does 30,000 miles/year!

If you like the 1.6 go for it and don't give the DPF a second thought!

A colleague bought a new Fabia with the 1.6cr engine and had terrible problems with the DPF, the dealer wasn't capable of fixing it. He ended up getting rid of it for a 1.9 octavia after 9 months.

It really seems to be the luck of the draw with DPFs
