VCDS Read-out - Fuel consumption problem

I have posted this in the VCDS section of the car maintanence threads but thought it might be worth posting a copy here aswell incase any of you skoda guru's have the know-how im after.

I have a problem of my car using rather alot of diesel at the moment. the car is bringing up figures of around 20.5mpg for an average trip while im working and the best i have got it upto was 38mpg on a 50 mile round trip along the local A-Roads.

i got the VCDS read-out earlier today but i dont know if anything on it could be responsible for the fuel issue.

i have also been told it could be a turbo actuator that is at fault but im unsure if thats something the VCDS would pick up on.

I can't really help here but I'd personally be worried given your symptoms with this one:

1 Fault Found:

00476 - Control Module for Fuel Pump (J538)

49-00 - No Communications

If the ECU can't communicate with this module would things not then operate in an emergency mode rather than being constantly tweaked to the prevailing conditions?

This may mean that more fuel is put through by the pump, or even that the ECU can't tell how much fuel is actually being used. Have you checked the economy with a brim to brim calculation to see if it really is down? might just be that ECU can't calculate it properly due to not being able to talk to this module.

I too have the same 00476 fault showing but no visible problems doing an average of 45mpg going like a rocket at 224000miles and no lack of power but would love to know what this is did you use a genuine VAG machine or like me an Ebay one
