Featured Replies

I had a few topics up over the last few days about remaps and just to say thanks for the advice and I had the vrs remapped today at big fish tuning and well theres nothing els to say but I wish I had done it sooner its great to drive!!!

So much quicker and the power is now so smooth not just from 2,000 - 3,000 rpm haha pulls right up till 4,000.

Also i had launch control mapped on to the car which ill not be using much as i like my clutch haha but is a nice party trick.

How does the launch control work on this? I know what it does but how do you do it in a manual? I had a go in a porches with it but was a auto/pdk

i seem to remember reading somewhere below a certain speed the revs are limited which is classed as launch control ? please correct me if im wrong lol

I also have a custom bug fish remap john is great bery helpfull n talks u through it all and the launch control deactivates when the car goes iver 5moh it just holds the reva at 2500

When I remapped my own fabia I put launch control on... Just limits the revs regardless of how far you put your put on the accelerator so you get peak take off when releasing the clutch

Interesting to do every now and then but watch the clutch lol

So how do you activate it or can you just not rev above 2500 now when at a standstill? Is it worth having or not really?

It just won't rev about 2500rpm at a stand still

No harm in having it

Bit of a party trick ;)

Ah right I see. My dad had a octavia vrs diesel when they first came out and that wouldn't rev above 2500 I will tell him it had launch control lol. Well the clears up mine doesn't have it :-(

I haven't had the chance to use it to set off with yet as it'll not be liked by the clutch and the roads are wet soz can't get grip in second never mind first haha

Bet you've got a smile on your face everytime u put your foot down now :-)

My S3 does this but at 4k

You have more revs to play with. ;)

Rev limiting is not the same as launch control, strictly speaking, but it's a neat trick when you want to get a good start.

My Yeti has it too. :p

if it's always on, what happens come MOT time?

Presumably the same as all the modern diesels that are rev limited from the factory?

2500 rpm is the speed they hold the engine at for a smoke test. What would happen at a track day though? For noise tests

In my experience they just test it at max revs if limited.

Because it's a diesel it's usually well under the noise limit anyway, so they don't really care.

Mine passed its MOT with it on

Not sure what they did though

If it doesn't produce enough smoke to get a reading on the smoke test its pass and advise. Had this a few times and then asked on my refresher course and that's what vosa say to do

reduced rev limiter when static isn't the same thing as launch control though?

Didnt know you could map a LC into a diesel map. pretty cool but everyone knows you get them to spit flames and make loads of noise from a petrol car haha.

All launch control does is tells the ERL to stop at a certain RPM that you set it too which is normally just enough to get away with no wheel spin for optimum grip and 0-60.

I know a few people that have it and they throw out some big flames: this is my mates 2.2 ITB'd fiesta:

It depends on your point of view. Like most things.

At the risk of going onto non-Skoda models the 2009 and 2010 GT-R have a rev limter, which was never called launch control.

But the 2011 onwards models have a launch control which not only limits the revs on launch but does other things.

Such as let the tyres spin slightly to give a quicker launch and stop the car bogging down, plus using this wheel slip to test for grip and then sending exactly the right amount of power to each wheel to get the best start possible,

That's why to me a rev limiter is not launch control. If it is I think most modern cars have it.

You can call it that, but for me personally launch control is far more advanced.

I agree with you, the TDIs that people have had launch control mapped in are making boost whilst stationary which makes me think about smoke, if it hasn't been mapped well
