Filler Cap 'mayonnaise' - Always Head Gasket Failure?

Featured Replies

Welcome.

So is that regularly serviced by a Main Dealer every year?

How many miles has the car done and how many between services and how is it used, short journeys daily, or does it do longer journeys?

Does the oil / engine regularly get a long run with the coolant and oil up to efficient operating temperature so that H2o gets to escape from the engine internals?

Hi All,

I think I have the same problem/issue with condensation. Last week I cleaned my oil filler cap as it had a grey residue on it, is this the same issue?

Do I need to get it checked out?

Once I cleaned it a few days after I noticed condensation again.

The car is regularly serviced by a Skoda main dealer.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

My advice would be; don't worry about it. Oh, and don't necro four year old threads, just start a new one.

Hi Awayoffski,

Thank you for your welcome.

So is that regularly serviced by a Main Dealer every year? My car was originally sold in 2015 and traded into Opel last year(March). It had its original first sale service  and i bought it from Opel with 15,950 mls on the clock. It was serviced by (Opel) when I bought it. In January I had it serviced my a Skoda main dealer getting a Major service at 25,200. A week or 2 ago I noticed the issue.

How many miles has the car done and how many between services and how is it used, short journeys daily, or does it do longer journeys? I changed my job recently and it only dose short runs during the week but longer 1h.30min runs on the weekend.

Does the oil / engine regularly get a long run with the coolant and oil up to efficient operating temperature so that H2o gets to escape from the engine internals? Unfortunately it dose not heat up enough during the week.

Regards

Hi Sepulchrave,

Thanks for the advice. Will i just leave it cool after a long run with the oil filler cap off?

Not sure on a 'necro' of a thread, you got a reply.

So it is a Mk3 Octavia, i never spotted that while on a phone.

Newish car, low mileage now, so you know how and why there might be condensation in the Engine Oil.

Leave the Oil filler cap on & do not remove to allow moisture to escape, but check your oil occasionally & then clean the cap if required, and be aware of what can happen when doing short trips in vehicles. (get to know the Stone Cold on the flat oil level before a journey, and then where the oil level is with a 'At normal operating temperature check', not just 'warm'.

Also the issues with modern TDI's doing short journeys.
