Out of curiosity is the Octavia 1 affected by the Golf MK4 fan issue, when the two speed fans burn out the slow speed resistor and eventually the whole motor?

Never heard of that one on here. Which I would take as a no.

There is a problem with the fans as I know when mine stopped working and I had to replace them. There are a few topics on here one with a good link to the mk4 golf forum with the same problems

Mines a 55 plate vRS with climate control

This is a problem which affect the climatronic models I believe . The page at mkivs outline the 5 minute test to identify this. I bought the resistors to do my golf but never got round to building the heat sinks.
