New radio won't fit

Featured Replies

Bought a new Philips CEM2000B dab/fm radio

Spent all weekend trying to figure out why the ignition live wasn't working despite all fuses being ok.

Decided to give up and use 2 permanant lives.

However the radio won't fit,,,,,

No matter how much I try if I have the cage on the radio fitted flush with the dash (the only place where it will grip)

the radio will not clip in and lock, it physically will not push back enough

I've tried taking the rubber bung off the back in case that was stopping it but it wasnt. It just will not push back far enough to lock into place

So the only way I could get it in is to have the cage sticking out a\ bit and it looks a pile of **** as well as being a thief magnet

Anyone know how I might fix this? other than putting the original one back in?

make sure you push all of the plugs out of the way before you push the set back, try tucking them round by the glovebox, it should go no problems

there is a bit of plastic inside that the bung goes into that can cause problems with aftermarket headunits (and the extra wires) they come with, so i have cut this out on several occasions now to fit a double din and a single din unit, means you can also tuck wires down behind the area in the dash much easier. Dont have a pic, but you will see the bit if you look, i carefully used a small saw blade to remove the sides attached then just took the piece out. Stereo doesnt move any more as a result as its supported by the cubby hole.

tried that but no matter how I route them it just wont clip into place

I've even pulled the switches out on top of the radio so I can get a long screwdriver in there to push the wires out of the way but it just wont

Thanks I'll try cutting that bit of plastic out tomorrow, getting too dark to do it now

I know the one you mean though, its got two holes for the rubber bungs to fit into one above the other

Tried swapping the tray underneath for the stereo? And having the tray on top. Or you could fit one of them natty Polo twin cupholders.

dont push wiring with screwdiver, you can damage it, def don't want that!

yes thats the bit i mean.

Is the cage locking in place when put in?

i don't like having the tray above as it makes the headunit harder to see.

Oh well. No choice for me. Otherwise the gearknob fouls my Costa. And I'm not spilling my caramel latte for any bu99er.

t*rt! caramel latte indeed!

ah you have cup holder fitted, any pics dude?

take the glove box out so you can pull the wires away from the back of the unit and that should do it as it is a very tight fit at the back of them if not you need to remove the plastic you can see at the back of the hole

Caramel latte ;) oooo sound nice actually

And ssssh quiet luca before you say anything :D

Not yet. The wife has stolen my USB pinhole camera again. :(

And Lloyd, why doesn't that surprise me... ;)

Yep, take the glovebox out. Much easier then to get the wires out the way.

Hehe :)

U know you want one

I was just trying to find a pic of the plastic bit

Its like a H bar tupe bit... Just take ur time and its easy enuff

Even easier with cage and hole out

You'll be ok bud

I have a long hacksaw nose blade that fixes in a stanly blade :)

I obtained somewhere and its dead hamdy for stuff like that

But if u had a hacksaw blade it could be done with control

With the plastic done its just cable fiddling, u can get 3 rcas and a screen loom in then

With some french ;)

I ha problems with the antena sticking out too far at the back and had to buy a 90 degree adapter it allowed it to slide back far enough go flush but I couldn't work out what it was for ages,

Just a though

What he said, just watch out for the sharp edges on the metal brackets on the right hand side when you remove the glove box. Most of the inside of the dash appears to be made of recycled razor blades.

You need to remove the glovebox first and cunningly route all the wires to get it to fit perfectly. It will fit if you tuck the wires away neatly.

I had the same problem when I changed mine years ago.

Did you switch the perm and switched live wires over when fitting? Because this is another thing you have to do when mating VAG wiring to aftermarket HU's.

You'll also need to wire in an aerial booster wire, if you want the same level of radio reception as the standard unit. I don't listen to the radio so never needed to.
