Great deal from brentacre on modified vrs - sorry to leave flux...

Featured Replies

After having been insured with flux for about 7 years I left today. They wanted £640 for my renewal and for a variety of reasons I've been too busy to look into other quotes. I'm 30, 8 years clean license, 7 years ncb, live in a postcode which is probably fairly high risk.

Needed to renew today so I called a few places just before 5. Christ knott couldn't match the flux quote but the lad at brentacre came back with a quote at £550 fully comp. Normally I'd call flux and get them to match it but brentacre were offering a policy which doesn't actually have a mileage limit, allows me to do any mods which don't increase the bhp figure without informing them, replaces mods like for like, homestart breakdown cover, legal cover, courtesy car, has no-claims protected, key and screen insurance, a 90 day international fully comp insurance allowance and a lower excess than flux.

The policy conditions are worth changing for alone. I've never had a problem with flux but I guess if they are that keen to keep my custom they could have offered a better rate.

Been with Brentacre for years now. Excellent service. For me not the cheapest but they mirror your no claims on additional cars which is handy

Hi,

Sorry we couldn't help this year.

Feel free to try us again though when you're due for renewal.

Regards,

Dan.

My renewal quote this year including breakdown was £432 (£412 last year). I didn't review the market last year, but decided to this year.

I tried two companies that advertise here, one said they wouldn't even try to beat the quote I had, the second offered like for like for £375.

I was also given a like for like quote of £365 from A plan (who I've used before).

Dougie says about his renewal quote: "normally I'd call Flux and get them to match it", something I could do, but I think that this is a slightly dubious business practice although it does ensure that the original broker retains as much profit as possible and the buyer seems to be getting the best deal.

Certainly the premium is not the only consideration, but in my case, I found that the "basic" premium to the broker was £296, so they had a fair bit to play with. By them being (I think), just a little bit too greedy, I went with a company that seemed to be making a genuine effort to get my business.

Whatever, it won't stop me asking for a quote next year, but it just reinforces my view that business ethics have descended into a "dog eat dog" world.

My renewal is due in May so hoping the Flux are still good for me and the mongrel. I also need to tell them about my front and back facing drive recorders which I hope will get me a discount.

I hope so, as my Porsche is also insured with them on a classic car, limited mileage policy. :) (Just as well its limited as the car's not moved off the drive since September last year....)
