Sugestion for Radio with SD card port

Featured Replies

Hi

Just got Octavia Ambiente TDI and need some suggestions on radio replacement.

Have the Symphony fitted but he cd changer does not work.

The Fm is not very good at picking up some local radio stations.

Example I'm in Cambridgeshire Radio Cambridgeshire is poor but Radio Norfolk is strong.

Want to replace with a unit that has SD card port and maybe bluetooth, plus a good radio reciever.

No need for unit to be able to play cds.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

Colin

If FM reception is poor currently then maybe the amplifier in the base of the aerial is already knackered. If you fit an aftermarket HU you will also need a power injector to supply power to the amplifier in the aerial base.

@Mrcd you forgot to tell what's the budget for the HU.

I went for a cheap Pionner unit, looks very good in the dash, light is green as the rest of the interior, and the sound is very good also,I replaced the speakers also with Magnat

I have a pioneer unit with green lighting too and Apline S types (with crossovers) in the doors.

@Mrcd you forgot to tell what's the budget for the HU.

Up £100.

Brought (£75) a Sony unit a few years back that sounded good in my Honda although there was no sd slot so had to have usb stick hanging out plus the mic for the bluetooth was in the back of the radio.

Hence more research this time.

Regards the amplifier in the base of the aerial being knackered....Is there a way I can test this?

Thanks

if you our worried about usb sticks poking out the front why not get one of these http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cde123r.html its a little bit more then 100 pounds but worth it as i have one in my car and is a fantastic headunit but as the link shows its a dual usb so comes with a cable to go into the glove box but if you really want one with a sd slot http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/14920.html

Think my amplifier might be gone too. I can get radio reception in places but it has become very patchy, I thought it was the HU. Is it hard/expensive to replace the aerial base?

Not sure on a hatch, but replacing the aerial base on an estate is pretty easy. Remove some of the plastic boot lining, and then you can slip your hand in above the headlining and undo the retaining nut and disconnect the cable. Easy :-)

I've got a blaupunkt HU sitting in the shed which takes SD cards up to 2gb and also USB (with an extension cable I ran into the cubby under the radio. I also have an ipod cable for it. You could have for a small sum.

It's an MP56 Casablanca IIRC. I took it out of my old Octy when I chopped it in.
