Bi-Xenon

If you were following me I'd keep my rear fog on until you got the message.

The problem here is that you need to have your front fogs on to be able to turn on your rear fogs!

Not on my little car I don't...

Hi jake,

I have been driving for over 40 years and I have never driven with my fog lights for the very reasons you mention. You will have read my earlier posts so you understand why I was tempted to do it. With the lights being so low on the car and beam being wide and flat I made the assumption it would not cause issues for other drivers. Of late I have seen oncoming vehicles with similar profile fog lamps illuminated and they did not cause me any problems. Are you saying this is not the case with the Superb?

If you switch your fogs off when you approach other traffic, then I commend you sir. The problem is those drivers that don't. The problem is that not every car with front fog lights has their beam angle set correctly. So when someone approaches me on a dark country road with front fogs on, my first thought is oh ffs here we go again... then I have to look ditch side of the road until the car has gone past as I don't know if they have the correct beam angle or not. Then the process is generally repeated every 5th car or so, as there are a lot of people that drive down unlit roads at night with their fogs on, and don't turn them off.

Just over a week ago I put my fog lights on for the first time in at least two years as I could not see more than 100 yards.

What model do you have that you don't need to have your front fogs on to have your rear ones on?  Is it a VAG model?  Its a huge problem here in Ireland as every second car has front fogs on and a lot of them during the day as well!  I think people see newer cars with the proper DRLs and they think that their fog lights do the same job not even thinking about the fact the DRLs are running on lower power.

Then you have the ever increasing number of drivers that are using these stupid blue tinted bulbs, trying to give the impression that they have xenon lights  .  I do a huge amount of night driving and I think these are the most distracting and dangerous of all accessories fitted to cars. They are worse than fog light use as they are usually very badly focused and of course are not connected to the suspension system like real xenon systems are.  They are totally ineffective in poor weather too.

No, not VAG - something old, made in Stuttgart.  I don't get the glare from fog lights when I'm higher up in the Skoda.  Maybe I should only drive the other car during the day, or put it on stilts when driving at night?
