Featured Replies

Any advice very gratefully received....

2007 1.9tdi estate Octy 2, all dash lights are ok, totally normal start process apart from it doesnt actually catch. It turns over. its getting fuel. glow plugs are apparently working (light comes on, goes out.

It just wont bloody start!

Fault code reader borrowed from a mate - no codes.

day before yesterday it wouldnt start.

Yesterday it was fine.

Today it wont start again.

Does anyone have any good gen? If it were an older model I'd be looking at relay 109 to begin with, but thats not on this model.

Please help!

the glow plugs might still be duff the light only indicates power to them i would take them out and test them on a battery if there ok try looking at the starter motor because if your getting fuel to the injectors it should start you could try tow starting if its a manual.

Try boosting it with another battery and jump leads. Might be that the battery is on the way out if it is still the original as it'll be getting on for 6yrs old?

I think it is the pump in the tank. Try to listen, if you can hear the pump for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on. If not- there you go :)

Hmm, I had a similar issue with my 54 plate a couple of years ago, it seemed as if the fuel pump in the tank had packed up, but all it turned out to be the fuse in the dashboard end fusebox for the fuel pump that had fallen out of its position and dropped into the lower dashboard trim.

it is fuse 27 in the fusebox at the drivers side end of the dashboard, and should be a 15 amp (blue) fuse.

Take the cover off the fuel filter and see if there is fuel in the canister. If there is none, then check the fuel pump in the tank has got power going to it before condemning the pump. It's a lot cheaper to replace a fuse than the pump itself.

Just wonder if thats whats been causing my problem of it being hard to start, but it does not do it every morning when cold

Where is the electric pump located cannot find any reference in the Haynes manual,

Doh, just found it under fuel sender unit

It's located in the top of the fuel tank. Also know as the pick up pump.

I have it on good authority (Blue Line Taxis) that this is a common problem on Skoda Octavias that have done a lot of work.

Also its a pig to do!

Having done loads more forum searching and reading ( and a bit if help from google) it appears that it is the battery. Recently the rear wash pipe separated giving the dimly glowing high level brake light fault, which I think has flattened the battery enough to cause mayhem. A full charge on my optimate has sorted that!

However... I have found a dodgy earth cable in my investigation, can anyone point me in the direction of a downloadable circuit diagram, and advise where the cable goes? It's the one in the photo below, furthest left on the 200 amp fuse.
