New shocks, springs is it worth while doing?

Featured Replies

My vRS is coming is now 7 years old and done 100K. Been considering changing the springs and shocks in all 4 corners and i know thats an expensive job but I want to look after my car. If i'm changing it them i'd want original Skoda shocks and springs and no aftermarket stuff.I know this is a difficult question to answer but generally how long do springs and shocks last for? and are they likely to wear out after 7 years? is it a good investment to get done now? my car's taken quite a beating as one year of that was spent driving over Beirut bypass full of craters and huge pot holes that were so bad that a lorry once fell into it when it snowed.Luckily don't need to go that way anymore. But still i think the old girl suffered.

if the old ones are ok then why change?

hi newskoda

i recently changed my rear shocks during the renewal of the rear bumper stops and notice that the shock after removal wasn't returning after being pushed into the shock, it should have moved back out but i noticed that it had been losing fluid and a horrid smell, i also renewed the rear top mounts aswell as they were starting to corrode, the steel bit inside the top mount, only problem i had was cracking the nut on the top of the shock, if i can do it, you can do it. my car is a 2006 129k on the clock.

I wouldnt bother unless they are leaking/ knocking..

But if u do want newer shocks i have a pair of polo gti front shocks (same as fabia vrs) that were removed from a workmates 08 polo when it was less than 2 years old (had only done 7k).. if u want them for a very small fee (£20).. pm if ur interested.. there just taking up room under my bench at wrk ;)
