1.4TDI Engine in a Fabia Estate

Featured Replies

Hello!

Looking deeper into y requirements. I work 11 Miles away from home and the only long trips I do are when we go on holiday. And I will be zooming to work most days on my motorbike.

Which got me thinking.

Do I need a Superb 1.9TDI?

Why not a Fabia 1.4TDI Estate?

Could this car have the potential of taking 4 people to cornwall? Once a year?

Or is it better to hang out for a 1.9?

I have a 1.9TDI Fabia estate.

I suppose you could take 4 people on a long trip in it.......I always use my Octavia estate for that. The Fabia estate has a pretty big boot, but underneath it's still a small car, just stretched by a foot. So it's quite small in the back seats, and although space in the front seats is adequate, my Octavia is much more roomy in the front and back (and comfortable).

I'm not sure I'd try to do a long trip in the Fabia with 4 adults. It's just too tight in the back.......but 2 adults and 2 kids would be fine. The 1.4TDI should be fine......it produces reasonable horse power.

Looks like you will be doing quite low mileage, so you might want to consider if it is worth getting a diesel at all. Also you could consider an Octavia......great car.

Based on what you posted I don't see why you would buy a car at all. Between road tax, insurance, service/belt change costs, insurance, depreciation etc. it would be significantly cheaper to just rent a car for your holidays.

I have 1.4 tdi combi (estate.)

I went out to buy an Octavia estate saw the a Fabia and said why get an Octavia?

99% of the time there is only me in the car doing the 65 mile each way commute. It is plenty big enough and there is plenty leg room. I am 5'11" and could do with losing a few lbs.

Yes.

I ordered the Sports pack with mine after trying the seats out in another one, spend 3 hrs. + total in the car to and back from work and IMO well worth trying to source a car with these seats for long distances.

Have done the spin from Emerald isle to the old chaps in Oxfordshire 4 up (2 adults 2 teenagers) and the kitchen sink no bother. One year we went from here directly to the brothers in Suffolk yet again no aches or strains. If you are going to Cornwall surfing you want one with the roof rails for the boards!

Basically, mine is a workhorse. The reason I went for 1.4 as opposed to 1.9 was due to the road tax as it was when I bought it - this is now based on emissions as opposed to cubic capacity and if I was buying new today I might get a 1.9 for a little extra poke and I could use a bigger trailer then for my odds and ends. That isn't to say that I have not been more than pleased with her over the last 220,000 kms.

I have the 70 bhp engine. It isn't a race car and has oft been maligned on the pages of this very forum, however as one who can remember Escort Mexico and 2000 litre Cortina as being the quick cars of the time, I reckon with all the cameras about these days it is plenty adequate and certainly pulls like a train for the 50 ->70 mph overtakes. It will pull a trailer of 8 bags of coal with a further 2 in the boot and you won't know the trailer is on.

I am averaging 65 mpg mixed driving but edging towards getting my money's worth.

One thing to note is I see you are thinking of using the bike for work "most days" I'm guessing that means you would want to be using the car in the ice snow and persistent rain. When it is around freezing, you could well be half way to work before the car has warmed up as they take longer than petrol engines do.

Hope this helps.
