project boot recess

Featured Replies

well some may know that ive bought a little plate so i started my bootlid tioday please bare in mind a long way to go but going to post all my progress and yes its been done by myself . but every step i will be asking if good from my paintshop mate who hasnt got time to do it so im going for the square with a little angle so not quite OEM shape but a nice angle and squared off . as im not good enuf to do original shape so would rather have it perfect squared and a little angle than a **** bodge job trying to get perfect OEM angles which im sure you will agree..

progress so far after 3 hours and alot of fannying about

standard lid firstly sanded ready for welding

second make a piece to fit not quite flush as will need a level of filler

then the second metal p[iece made by copying the other sides shape

then lined up to check plate fitted and alot of ajustment needed but for 3 hours and in reality an hours worth of graft its well under way

Good work Deano, you're making sharp progress with this car!

Couldn't you have simply just placed the new shaped number-plate in place of the original.??

thanks mate i like to get it done hate having loads of jobs waiting to be done and

giandoug what do you mean the original shape but fills the shape? similar to the new jag type?

i didnt want that tbh i wanted somthing diffrent and theres nothing better than doing it yourself and seeing the finished outcome

looking good so far mate i wouldnt have the balls to attempt something like that lol

thanks mate well tbh the boot cost me £30 so its worth trying and im going quite well so far. i thought it would be hard but its not as difficuklt as i thought tbh.

and doing it meself a get a better satisfaction granted not OEM lines like i wanted but done by myself so feels better on finished product

Nice work! See you bought a spare boot to do it on, good thinking. Lines look great they do have the oem about them i think. Looking forward to see it smoothed and sprayed. You getting rid of the skoda badge aswell?

Looks like its coming along well, looking forward to seeing the end result!

thanks mate yeah i noticed that it had slight ones it was by pure mistake but im gunna say i meant it lol

as for badge ive got the silver outlined on so either that , flush it or ive got somthing in mind to try but dunno if itl be cheesy thinking about hollowing out the original badge it came with leaving the skoda outline and adding a breaklight behind to show skoda logo

I'd smooth the badge over mate, at least with the locating pins removed from the badge you could still place one on the back in future :)
