Octavia 4x4 gears sticking

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an octavia 4x4 06 plate and the gears stick, or are sometimes really stiff getting into gear, it started with the first gear and reverse but now it seems to be happening more frequently. It is also a bugger of a job to get it out of gear sometimes when parking. I have found that turning the engine off and restarting helps.

The garage said it was probably the clutch but to wait for it to fail, the clutch then broke. £800 later, a new clutch fitted along with a new fly wheel mass (I'm not very clued up on cars so forgive me if I name things wrongly). Well at least the gears will work..... I thought.... wrong! The problem is still there, but now the clutch stinks when i'm desperately pulling on the gear stick to get it out of gear.

I have been told it could be the master cylinder or the gear linkage.

Can anyone help to shed some light on my problem, also a rough guide on how much it would cost to fix please.

Thanks in advance

Eira

Sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging fully.

They should have already replaced the slave cylinder when doing the clucth so it might be the master cylinder.

Also worth checking if they bled the clutch properly as it uses the same fluid as the brakes so advisable to bleed both the brakes and the clutch at the same time. If air is in the system it would be able to push all the way on the clutch to open it up.

How many miles has the car done. High milers (100K + ) sometimes benefit with an oil change in the gerbox. Skoda say its lifetime oil but many have proved that wrong

Hi Eira,

I have exactly the same model & year and I am getting the same trouble with 1st and Reverse at 76k miles.

As mentioned above I think the problem is master cylinder related as the bite point has slipped. Not sure how much it will be to fix but hopefully should find out next week.

Is it OK when the engine isn't running?

Does pumping the clutch pedal a few times help?
