letter in July Evo mag

Featured Replies

In July's Evo mag there is a letter from Craig Low suggesting a 1.8T tuner shoot out. Mentions having his Cupra R chipped at Jabba Sport and he is a member of several online car forums.

Is it anyone on here?

It's a concept thats been mentioned a few times, one day it will happen and there will be some jaw dropping I dare say.

Problem is it will settle nothing and only cause more questions, which for aforum is good, for a tuner potentially suicidal.

I'd like to see a "stig" sos Beeb, like day.

That is 5 cars stock or not; since it matters not on obd tech, laptops and a previously drawn RR not at any current tuner and a randomly selected operator, again not any vag tuner.

Turn up, cars get rollered first thing, then there "technology" done and rollered again 3 times knocking the low and high off for an average.

It will not achive anything really as variences always creep in. What if a a part fails or is faulty eg a sender or Maf....

However what should come of it is a dam good reference of curve shapes and smiles as the spectators consume burgers and hotdogs :D

Figures mean little, I know mine used to have 207brake but could keep up or make on other models...I know it has more now, but 10 or 20 god knows and I don't care, since after 18months SMWBO said...what have you done to your car it's really smooth now?

Proof its not a peak but how you curve :)

Personally I think it should happen for reference but all parties need to sign an NGBA (non Grumpy barsteward agreement) and brown bag each tuner, like the pepsi challenge but round a circut :D

Must admit I like some curves on my Mrs in the right places :naughty:

I'd agree - a smooth torque curve will make the car (hesitate to use the word) 'easy' to drive in that it's more predictable. That means it can be pushed more safely then a car which suddenly pushes out a whole load more power say in the wet.

Also, in the triple-roller scenario for example, you will see big differences between those with FMIC or improved cooling systems generally, after a few runs. On the road, the differences may not be so great, but when you put a car on the circuit is definitely will make a difference.

To me the other thing that's important is great, no excellent, customer service. There are loads of tuners out there, no doubt most are fine, but some are definitely better than others because they put in that extra effort I suppose.

:D
