Wiper blades replaced

Featured Replies

Thanks for this TP!!! I got in the Monster this morning and noticed huge parts of the passenger side not wiping. When I got out I went to clean off what was perhaps on it to find the wipers have had it. Only 22,000 miles old too. But last June and July probably counted as 3 or 4 year's worth of rain so I don't blame them going so quick. Did a search here and this thread came up! Perfect. Ordered.

I cannot believe how long some people leave their wipers before replacing them!! On average I seem to replace mine evey 9 months, or as soon as they start to leave too many streaks. And I invariably

  • Mine fail;ed early jan, replaced with Valeo blades all round, - so far no vibrations etc - however i'm in france and Valeo(French company??) rule!!

  • I've never had a wiper tear on the Yeti.

Ordered a pair last night, same thing passenger side one split not clearing a large area.

Wonder if its to do with the wiper sitting on the curve of the windscreen, as most posts seem to the passenger one splitting :wonder: , my van ones split in the same place where the passenger one sits on the curve :wonder:. Can't do much about it though and they have lasted 22 months.

as I said in post #20, I'm still convinced that Part of the problem is that every time you turn on/off the ignition, the wipers "adjust" their position slightly on the screen - in theory to stop the rubber forming a set and then only wiping efficiently in one direction. This is fine normally, but when the wipers are frozen to the glass the blades eventually tear at their weakest point, the thinnest part of the rubber that runs between the retaining flange & the blade itself.

I've never had a wiper tear on the Yeti.

Interesting Wakev. So I should throw away the torn passenger one (and you're spot on as to what had happened and where!) and keep the driver's one. And in another 20,000 miles (when the passenger ones goes first again) use the two old driver's side ones as a pair for a while.

I think it happens, when you are careless in the winter, and not unsticking them from the screens before you drive.

It happened to me twice!! Think I learnt my lesson :-)

Exactly the same with mine, 25,000 miles in 2 years and the nearside one split this week. Offside one looked fine but, as I needed them in a hurry, I paid dealer price (ouch!) and could only get a pair. At least they were cheaper than my wife's replacements for her Mazda 2 last month, the nearside one of those is really short but you obviously don't pay by the inch!

My car stays outside in all weathers, and gets used at very silly times of the day. I am not "careful" about clearing the windscreen all the way down to the wipers when I set off.

However, I change my wipers a lot more often than people here appear to do so. Probably every 9 months and sometimes sooner. As soon as a wiper starts to leave track marks they get changed! I am amazed that people seem to think they last 2 years!! Even after one year they have started to harden and become brittle.

Every pair I have fitted have been Bosch ones.

The split in the wiper is just down to wear and tear, as I have the heated windscreen they are free of ice before they are used. Its just the wipers telling me its time to spend some money and get new

The change of position thing always happens when I have driven a few yards (sorry I still think in imperial) never seen it move when I start the yeti.

It :rain: a lot in wales Graham so would get a lot more wear :giggle::notme::angel:.

I think the aeroblade ones in general because of their construction are not good. The problem really is because they are much more expensive, they are not replaced as often as they should be.

I actually think the new "aero" wipers are far better.

The factory fitted wipers' design allows for replacing the refill (blades themselves). As well as the Bosch Aerotwins' design does. But the price of the refill (p/n 1K0955429A) is approximately 2/3 of the price of a new set of Aerotwins. So I personally prefer Aerotwins.

Left & Right blades are different lengths Johann, so you'd have to remove the rubber from a driver's side blade, trim it to size & refit to a passenger "backplate"!

Ah. Having never replaced them before I didn't realise they are slightly different. Without measuring they looked the same to me!

The original factory wiper blades gave up the ghost a month back; or at least the nearside did with a separation of part of the wiping blade. Not bad I suppose, they had survived 20 months and 26k of motoring.

Replaced them with an after-market Bosch Aerotwin A980's pack at £16.99 delivered from fleebay.

Thought I'd post this, as so far the Bosch product is proving just as good as the factory set-up and about half the dealer RRP. Oh and they are a straight out of the box fit; no messing about with multi fittings.

Thanks TP, I've just ordered a set myself as our original wipers were not doing a good job after 30 months :D

:wonder: Is Tim on commission from this seller :D . He has gained him a few orders from the few that have posted on here, without the ones who have just ordered and not posted

Its the season when drivers try to clear an iced windscreen by using the wipers, not realizing that they are themselves frozen to it. Inevitably the already worn blades will be torn away.
Our Octavia blades failed due to being frozen to the screen, In future I will lift them free before switching on the ignition and the auto wipe kicking in. The poor old girl has not been used to frost always being garaged, but she has been pushed outside since Yeti's arrival and she does not like it.

My passenger side wiper blade split this morning.

Bums...

Drivers side is still in pretty fine condition so i don't believe it is frozen screen "abuse".

I've ordered a set from Tims seller, hope you are getting a kick back.

22 months mine lasted, seems almost like an auto-destruct time is built in....

Cheapest I've found for the Bosch Aerotwin rear blade is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300781270166 (A282H) at £10.44 inc p&p if that helps anyone.

My new bladed were delivered Friday sometime, I changed them on Ivor yesterday.

The changeover is as easy as pie. There is a black 'housing' at the top of the wiper blade arms. On the housing, there is a little black 'button'. You simply press the button and ease the old blades upwards away from the housing and then simply slide in your new blades to hear a reasurung 'click' which means JOB DONE and they are safely in place.

In all honesty, I must have spent 30 seconds to change both front blades over.

OOOOOOOOOOO, aren't they quiet :p

Nice find there John, but that blade doesn't fit the Yeti :(

Go for the Bosch blades and save yourself £2. :)

Mine arrived Thursday fitted that day, simple job both fitted both from the same side in service position saved a walk round the car  .

Was very grateful for the new blades when we had to come down to your part of the world on Saturday, rain snow and bl@@dy cold wind off the sea, kept a eye out for your yeti but you must have been sitting at home in the warm :D , there was a white 12 plate one in the NCP car park, but I was still trying to recover after paying £18 :@ for 4 hours parking to look round the back to see the spec.
