Knocking Turning Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

Trying to diagnose an issue guys.

The other day the vRS started to knock in the front end, particularly when turning (either left or right).

Today I drove it around a yard in a figure eight, and it seems to knock about every quarter turn of the steering wheel (both ways).

Any suggestions?

cv joint sounds like it could be that

That's what I was thinking. I wasn't sure though.

If it knocks when the car is stationary or moving very slowly it could be your top mounts. If only when moving then it is more than likely CV joints.

That was what I initially thought it was, Michael.

I notice it when moving rather slowly, like parking into my drive or slowing down and turning into a road/drive.

but the cv aint a knocking noise it's more of a clicking, perhaps it;s the drop links

Could definitely be the drop links or even anti roll bar bushings, mine seem to last no more than a year.

Simple test to check the top mount bearings is to pop the bonnet and place your hand on top of the each strut while somebody turns lock to lock. It should feel smooth with no jerkiness.

If it is moving in a jerky motion it probably means your top mount bearings are gone, it will only show up like this once they are quite bad though.

could be a snapped spring they tend to take the top circle off and bypass the bearing and top out on the chassis, then click as spring jumps round when turning
