Dashboard storage box

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Picked up my new (used) 12' Octavia today. Only found one annoying thing so far, and that is the dashboard storage box lid won't stay shut - it keeps flipping open, which is flipping annoying!

I've seen the thread on how to revove it, but any ideas why it won't stay shut? I'm assuming there's a spring clip - or something, that keeps it closed.

I'm uessing something has become mis-alligned when my Parrot BT was fitted as the LCD is mounted just below the hazard switch.

Ideas welcome before I go pulling it around tomorrow. Thanks :-)

When it's open, try pushing the clip at the very front. It should push and stay down (arms closed), then push and come up (arms open). It that works ok, take everything out and see what happens. Sometimes the mat inside can shift and cause the box not to shut properly.

It is possible, if the car has a 3rd party BlueTooth kit installed, that something is caught on the mechanism. Is fairly easy to remove the box if needed.

I know the type of clip you mean - like a little arrow clip, but there isn't one - I think the arms left and right clip in underneath when it's pushed down.

I thought there was a clip - must have been thinking about something very similar.

In that case whip it out and have a look.......

I find it's easier to get a trim tool (or other large flat object) under the back first, lever it up, then do the front and then wiggle the whole thing out. Unplug the hazard light switch (there's a tab to squeeze, then pull the connector away from the switch. You should then have the box in your hands. Look for anything broken/fouling the mechanism, or anything in the hole that could interfere. When I fitted my phone kit, I tie-wrapped the cables to the air-vents out of the way. I do remember the the lip has to go all the way down, touch the surround and up slightly to lock. The same to unlock.

Had a quick look this afternoon. Each side there's a small piece of plastic with grooved track and stoppers, so when it's closed the latches move to the closed position and locks. I don't think the latches are moving far enough for it to lock. Minor - but annoying!

I fitted a taxi meter in mine, took my time with it but after refitting it kept popping open. I took it back out and spent ages trying to work it out.

The whole thing was twisted ever so slightly and a bit wasn't moving as it should, at the back corner near a cog.

Sorry cant remember exactly but should point you in the right direction.

Any advice on how to remove the lid from this storage compartment? I'm planning on fitting a taxi meter there so do not need the lid.

Not sure how to remove lid but I think base spec Octys came with the storage space but no lid. Might be a relatively inexpensive way to keep original box undamaged - well, apart from it continually popping open!

Sarge.
