Rear wiper has a mind of its own.

Featured Replies

The wiper stalk has been changed (mechanic thought that was the issue and the reason the fuse blew so often trying to use the back one), there's a new fuse in it after it blew due to me trying to test it with the washer fluid empty. It worked properly for a bit when I changed the blown fuse to a new one, but now it just goes on its own and won't stop (like before the new stalk). It's driving me rather mad and really need to know if anyone has had this issue. It's on a MK1 Fabia VRS by the way.

Not sure if it would be the same, but my Golf's (same electronics I guess?) front wipers became uncontrollable (couldn't stop them - best I could do was the 30second interval mode) and it was fixed by changing the relay for a new one. Could be an avenue of investigation?

There must be a dodgy wire somewhere.

Can not answer this question, but hope someone can, because my 53reg Fabia VRS has just started doing just the same - rear wiper has a mind of its own!! Sometime it's on all the time, other times it does a couple of random wipes but these don't seem to be at the normal 'intermittent' timing. Any ideas?

I had this on a Mk1 Octavia estate. It turned out to be a relay and some corroded wiring behind a trim panel on the nearside of the boot space, (in the Octavia under the CD changer). The corrosion appeared to have been caused by the tubes for the rear washer jet leaking.

just a thought ....

pull the trim off the tailgate and look at the wires where they join the motor....

mine are currently rubbing through but i cant seem to find whats causing it ??

this may cause the fuse to blow if its shorting on to something metal

Update, the motor has been changed, the relay is apparently fine. Next they are going to send off the control module. I'm rather annoyed. The only thing the new motor did was stop it going constantly, it now just does it randomly.

I'd love to know what the issue could be too, mine's really ****ing me off! Especially when driving for 120 miles on snowy motorways and wanting an occasional wipe, not a constant one :( It seems to do it when it's cold / wet, I've had the boot trim off and nothing seems wrong there. Ended up scratching a window tint in the process too!

The mechanic broke my rear blade taking it off to replace the motor ! They are lucky It's all under warranty. The money I'd of spent if it wasn't. I'll ask them to take the car apart and look in every place relating to the wipers, as well as sending the module away. I'm not going to leave the car for a week and get it back with the same problem. I've been back and forth top many times as it is.
