CD Changer

Featured Replies

Are you sure that will work with the Symphony player?

The CD changer that for the Fabia is the older style cartridge loader.

Oh right - I were reading the eBay description and it said Fabia 04 - 10

Do you know which is the right one bud? Maybe send me a link to a piccy on google?

The cd changer that you could spec with the car goes under the passenger seat.

It's definitely that sort as I got one for Rob when he fitted one :)

So you load the CDs under the seat? that is a bit awkward...

How would that cable plug into the back of the stereo? it isn't long enough! lol

It doesn't. There is a cable which goes from there to the back of the CD player.

Oh right - I will check that. I am guessing I would need to remove the under seat storage to see this? Would make my day if i found one of these under my seat when checking!

The code in the description of the one in the first link is found in the Octavia 2 Accessories catalogue so isn;t the one you need.

That said it's loads more expensive than the correct one that Sam linked to.

Also if you have underseat storage then you don't have a CD changer.

It's one or the other i'm afraid.

Thanks bud. I might get one I just don't like the idea of having to mess about under the seat to change a disc lol.

I have one which Ive removed from my smashed car will try and get pics of it. As said already you loose the under seat storage box but I had one on drivers side anyway. There is also the brackets and fasica plate you need to mount it all.

You only need to go under the seat when you wiah to change a disc other than the 6 you already have in, the HU changes them over itself

You take the cassette out from under the seat, change the CDs and then but it back again you don;t have to feed the CDs into it while it's under the seat.

I went to put some CD's in my mums while i borrowed her SE and it wasn't there.

She'd taken it indoors to update her CDs and managed to leave it there!!

How often are you not going to not want to listen to one of the 6 CDs you've pre loaded? or be on a long enough journey that you listen to all of them! :D

You could always just buy an after market head unit with aux in or USB in?

Exactly what I did.

Far easier than juggling CDs.

But with a CD changer you get to listen to all the classics:

Big Mix '97, Now 2000, Pop Party '99 etc etc :giggle:

They're all the type of CDs I have. I've really struggled to find some discs to fill the changer and just resorted to filling a CD with some MP3s.

Might burn some of my digitally purchased music onto some CDs to stick in the car.

If you can get a changer cheap (you usually can with the older Fabia ones) then go for it. Looks better to keep the OEM stereo. Either that or get an iPod adapter that uses the CD changer input.

I moved all of my CD collection into a new CD tower on Saturday.

Among which I found....

Haha.... I'm ashamed to admit it but that is also lurking in my collection somewhere. LOL!

Don't underestimate the cost of the cable if you're retro fitting an OEM unit... It's not part of the standard Fabia loom and will need fitting additionally. Autoleads make one, I've got it, I've never been sure about it because I get a very faint ticking at high/mid volumes (and I've had 2 disc changes on it now.. thanks to Sam, so it wasn't the player it's self) ;) At the time the cheapest I could find it was £20 odd... It's way too long though, but can be made neat and tidy on top of the glove box.. loadsa' room hiding up there.... This means you'll be pulling a lot of trim out though to get from under the seat to the back of the HU.. I went along the outer edge, so b pillar, door sill etc. Not so bad though as you'll have the seat out anyway and Skoda did put holes in the shell to run it through. Could take it under the centre console instead.. but I've had that out before, and thought the sill side would be less effort.. after all it was probably about the same but at least going along the sill used a bit more of the cable length.

If you can't find a setup to buy with the mountings and trim, then people have been known to hack the back out of the under seat storage box and screw the changer straight into it.. A cheaper alternative.. just means opening the little door when you want to change the 6 disc cartridge, and as previously mentioned above, Cars spec'd with the changer from the factory had the under seat storage box on the drivers side... I don't miss it, I think I hid my old sat nav in it about 3 times.

You know what though, I'll be completely honest with you... It's not worth the hassle, buy a AUX in adapter and use your phone or mp3 player.. route it through into the glove box.. or down to the little shelf in front of the gear stick.. The only 3 reasons I bothered is because I wanted to fit another optional extra... I kid my self into thinking I can hear the difference between uncompressed, and compressed audio on a car stereo... (TBH, media players and phones have such huge capacities now that you can just use a lossless encoder.).. And I used to work in CD mastering / manufacturer so felt a little compelled to stick with CD's.
