VCDS Coding For Octavia mk2 (2007/8) Steering Wheel Controls

Featured Replies

Hi All,

As the title suggest. Can anyone offer anyhelp getting my steering wheel controls to work?

2007/8 Octavia mk2 pre-fl L&K.

They worked with the standard stream unit.

I upgraded the stream to a Bolero (and upgraded the can too) and they worked then.

Ive just fitted a Columbus and on initial fitting they worked but after just updating the firmware and maps and after a re-boot of the columbus they dont work anymore.

I cant see any obvious reasons why not and checked the coding.

I thought maybe some kind soul on here could offer some further suggestions to try?

Many Thanks

Check your RNS510 coding, it gets reverted during a FW update.

There's a fix to download and apply to earlier cars. On the mygti site under firmware. On my mobile at moment so don't have weblink sorry

Thanks. I remeber seeing somthing about a fix but it didnt say if it was also for the steering wheel controls.

Anyway the fix is here: http://www.my-gti.com/3374/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-and-information

I downloaded the version I needed and it did in deed fix the steering wheel controls.

However my columbus now thinks its in Germany whenever you turn it on. I'm assuming to get around this by installing bewer FW but then you dont have SW controls so you have to upload the fix and then your back in Germany :giggle:

After a while the unit knows your not in Germany so it all works out in the end.

That never happened to me, pretty sure its not a facet of the steering fix. When I read about it, it happened to some and not others, but was defo FW related. Think it even has a name: Regensburg Syndrome haha

Yeah ive seen that quoted a few times.

When ive got a moment I might try re-installing my FW disc and seeing if that solves the Germany problem.

Right now it seems I will have to put up with it to get the steering wheel controls working.

I will update when I have more info.
