Lamp in storage box

Featured Replies

Any suggestions for a small lamp that will clip in or screw in the inside of the storage box next to the steering wheel, power will be taken from the light switch

I had thought about a small strip of LEDs but they get hot

One LED would be more than enough for that tiny box. Get a 5mm White led, bezel mount and a resistor between 400 and 600 ohms to give you a current of between 20 and 40 mA. You could tap this from the illumination line for the light switch as the load is tiny.

Otherwise, dealextreme flexible white LED strips are self-adhesive, flexible, waterproof and run directly from 12V. You just trim to length on the cut lines.

^^ that one is 10m long but you get the idea. These are higher power so I wouldn't be adding it to the illumination line. Mine don't really get hot (I use them as a boot light).

Is it advisable to get the power from the light switch, auto electrician says it could interfere with the can-bus system

It'd be better to tap from the foot well illumination, but that depends on your settings as to when it's on.

What about battery operated? Dont expect that the cubbyhole will get a huge amount of use?

Mine is used all day long being a taxi, have tried to find a battery one small enough but cannot find one, so the next option is a wired one
