  • Yes, the google translator is hillarious!

  • Lots being said on forums now. Amazing how well behaved the DSG is here, upright and so badly on the other side of the world. upside down.

Increased fuel consumption after ECU modification? Surely they can't blame VW for that?

132% oil topup between services. Hmmm.

Stu vRS,

ECU updates can be done to any of our vehicles when we put them in for a Service under VAG servicing routines.

(quite possible at the 2 year/20,000 Inspection Service'.)

The customer is not aware of these until collecting the vehicle, that is if they get told,

which often you do not.

Anyone putting the vehicle in for an Oil Cunsumption test' & 'A Breather Modification' might find that there has been the Latest ECU upgrade also done.

This can be for the better, but not always. Performance or Economy can suffer, but usually will improve or at least 'no change'.

Lets hope this is just the start of many cases against the 'Volkswagen Audi Group' & that these will bring to the wider public via the media, problems their customers can expect & the treatment they may receive.

Plenty of growing evidence of design or manufacturing faults with some of their engines & denial from VAG over these faults.

It may at least lead to them having to offer 'Extended warranty Periods' for those with the potential faulty vehicles'.

Sorry misread update as remap.

  • 2 weeks later...

links not working for me :(

  • 3 months later...

It reads to me as though the 'applicant' should have made his car available for inspection by VW more readily than they did. It seems odd that after complaining a person would object to the car being available for inspection work?

I think you posted the first link quite a while ago as I remeber reading all that dry legal drivel :D.

Still, good Ozzies are letting themselves being bullcrapped and are doing something about it !

That's gearboxes, anything about oil consumption?

I have been looking hard for anything recent on Twinchargers & VAG doing something about them.

Seems easy enough because of the Court Case there was,

for someone with a Faulty Twincharger to say, 'Here it is', investigate and fix it please.

If you go along with the carry on they want of pretending they do not know the reason for 'High Oil Usage',

then you should get a good vehicle in the end.

Surely no excuse for them to mess about Customers that do as asked to get the vehicle checked by their Official Dealerships.

DSG coverage in the Madia is doing VW/Audi lots of harm.

That's gearboxes, anything about oil consumption?

So, they are replacing 30,000 DSG gearboxes in Australia, but you are more concerned about oil consumption?

We do not have Chinese Built DSG's in mk2 vRS Fabias in Europe unless someone has imported a car from your part of the world,

& we have 7 speed Dry Clutch ones. So not the same problem in Europe as Australia or Austral Asian Countries.

We do have cars with a Common Problem with 1.4 tsi 178bhp CAVE Engine Twinchargers to those in Australia.

The problem is not only 'High Oil Usage', it can be a bigger problem leading to more serious failures,

or even total engine failure.

(now that sounds to me like as big as safety issue as a Gearbox Fault can be on the road,

Australians with a faulty RS Fabia should let the Media know about that, and then there might be a Re-call on Engines,

no matter how few are already faulty.)

Why is it strange to you? First of all my car is Nov 2012 and the above mentioned recall draws a line at 2011 models. Secondly DSG boxes Oz is using I'd wager are made in China and those were known to be made faulty. Thirdly Oil consumption is a very serious problem leading to engine replacement and goes across all VAG brands with only one factory in Chemnitz, Germany producing those engines so it is universal. Oil consumption leads to complete engine failure, not just loss of drive...

On Autocar website today:

"Significantly, the DQ200 used in Australian-specification Volkswagen models is produced in the same factory in Kassel, Germany as the DQ200 gearbox fitted to cars sold in Britain."

  • Author

I doubt the gearbox in my car is Chinese given the car was made in a factory in Czech Republic, presumably the same one where British Fabias come from. :bandit:

Plenty of VW owners and Skodas on this forum complain about their gearboxes.

I take it they are DQ200's

Just as well we do not have DQ200 boxes in our Fabias.

george

OK, fair enough, wasn't sure about the origin of Oz DSG boxes.

Well, all in all good news and if anything happens to my DSG I will have enough ammo to get it replaced free so very useful piece of info.

What is really disenharting and massively damages VAG reputation is thier reluctance to own up and sort out thier problems. One needs to look at Toyota who have no problems doing so and after their last recall their share prices went significantly up :)

It is funny the Euro bias on this forum.

Like the assumption that all things Chinese must be rubbish. Doubt whether anyone that thinks that has ever been to Shanghai.

Ah let's remember that China is number two economy in the world.

Ok, Firstly the recall covers about eight different models over Audi, VW, and Skoda, umm not just the Fabia.

Secondly why is there an assumption (from within the UK I presume) that all Australian delivered VW vehicles were specially kitted out with Chinese gearboxes??

My Australian delivered Skoda Octavia was made in the Czech Republic. It probably has parts from all over the world. But where or what is the evidence that substantial amounts of the drivetrain of Australian delivered cars were actually made in China???

Thirdly, what is more serious: 30,000 new replacement gearboxes across three brands in a total country recall that might be the precursor of a complete international recall, or, one model engine that might be burning more oil!? Well it obviously depends on your perspective.

What is the vRS box then?

I think George might have gotte this one wrong. As far as I know to 70kg dry clutches 7-speed DSG boxes fitted for vRS fabias are DQ200 but I might be wrong

There is no Euro bias.

What i read previously regarding DSG's was concerning plants and manufacturing out side of Europe.

Most of the stuff i own was made outside Europe.

My cars come from the other side of the world other than Europe.

Apart from my Skoda & my Suzuki built in Hungary.

It all works great here, cars TV's, computers etc etc..

I have stuff from China, Taiwan, India etc etc on a regular basis.

But it is used in the Weather, temperatures and Humidity that i experience here.

30,000 Replacement Gearboxes is a big deal and getting well publicised.

**Extended to 100,000 mile Warranties now for some countries.**

.

Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda '1390 cc TSI 'CAVE' Engines built from 2009 to Mid 2012,

and many being replaced because of failures in parts,

and a Up-dated engine since installed to New Vehicles from Late 2012,

is as big an issue, just not widely known yet.

EDIT,

Look at the NM/ lb ft that the Recalled DQ200 DSG's were for.

Recalled ones

148 lb ft/200 Nm

vRS DSG 184 lb ft/ 250 Nm

george

I think it depends where you look for the info. This is cut from a well known online sorce,

At the start of 2008, another world first,[6] an additional 70 kg (150 lb) seven-speed DSG transaxle[6] (Volkswagen Group internal code: DQ200, parts code prefix: 0AM)[8][9][10] became available. It differs from the six-speed DSG, in that uses two single-plate dry clutches (of similar diameter).[10] This clutch pack was designed by LuK Clutch Systems, LLC.[11] This seven-speed DSG is used in smaller front-wheel-drive cars with smaller displacement engines with lower torque outputs,[6][7][10] such as the latest Volkswagen Golf,[6][10] Volkswagen Polo Mk5,[10] and the new SEAT Ibiza,[7] due to it having a maximum torque handling capacity of 250 N·m (180 lb·ft).[6] It has considerably less oil capacity than the six-speed DQ250; this new DQ200 uses just 1.7 litres (0.37 imp gal; 0.45 US gal) of transmission fluid.[6]

Its not the DQ250 or DQ500....So can only be the DQ200
