  • Stu vRS, ECU updates can be done to any of our vehicles when we put them in for a Service under VAG servicing routines. (quite possible at the 2 year/20,000 Inspection Service'.) The customer is no

This is all a bit worrying to say the least. I bought my car mainly for the gearbox but I'm not sure whether my model is included in this 'fault' issue.

Are we saying European cars have the same faults as China and Aus? I haven't read anywhere that this is the case.

I suppose if there is a recall it will be well documented so I will just keep fingers crossed. Got to say though this news is the last thing I wanted to hear. :'(

Thing is we do not know anything for a fact as VAG is inherently secretive, cloak† style of customer (mis?)information politics. All we know that some DQ200 boxes were recalled in Oz due to mechatronic unit "false neutral" fault. From what I understand this is cured by software update hence if you had your car serviced ask your dealer if that "patch"/update was applied. Cars undergoing routine servicing have ECU flashed with the newest code and clients are not told in majority of cases. This I suspect is why they do not make a fuss about it and just deal with it during servicing.

I do not think there is anything inherently mechanical wrong with DQ200.

Do not get me wrong, I am not defending VAG and I think their practice of secrecy and half truths sugar coated in carefully chosen phraseology is simply despicable.

It does look like it is the box designated as DQ200, so sorry for my confusion.

Still no idea if any problems reported on them in the vRS other than the handfull mentioned on here in the last couple of years.

(twice in the last couple of weeks by people that had replacement engines, but they never said what happened to the DSG's or what the problem was.)

I know that i torture mine quite often and it loves it.

Surprised it stands up to what it has to suffer really.

Is the problem when they are in heavy/severe traffic with a lot of stop/starting?

Interesting attachment George, but the translation is akin to something Stanley Unwin would have written!

we've got many issues with 7 speed dsg here in Russia. VW applied a 5 year/150000 km warranty on it last year. (Not on a whole gearbox but clutches and mehatronic)

Edited by FROMAX

I suppose it's a little strange, Korean car manufacturers put a 7 year warranty on their vehicles and they are an instant success with acclaimed confidence in their product, VW slap a 5 year warranty on their gearbox in some countries and its seen as a failure and a ploy by VW to divert attention from theirs  .

A 5 year or 7 year Warranty on a vehicle is rather different from extending a Warranty on just a Gearbox.

Its happened before like that in North America where a Manufacturer put Extended Warranties on a Rotary Engine that had problems in many countries,

but only had the Warranty Extended where the Legal Actions were going to hit them hardest.

Extended Warranties on Replacement Engines fitted in Europe or anyplace else because of manufacturers faults

& also on those with original unrepaired engines with Warranties about to run out this year or next.

That would be peace of mind for those that now own cars they bought recently without being sure how long they might get out of a CAVE engine, & will be a good move from VAG.

Has anyone contacted watchdog about the engine issues?

I was suppose to write in German to the Director of Chemnitz fab which makes twincharges but it is going really slowly...

It would be a good idea to gather evidence and write to Watchdog in this matter.

Bottom line is if we do not do nobody else is going to do it for us...

BTW.

I do not have any bias concerning out of EU markets. I thought they had an assembly plant in Australia and they were using Chinese manufactured DSG boxes, which 500,000 were recalled last year, and hence the problem. But it looks like the cars are put together in Czech Republic and shipped to Oz.

Which engines the BMW or the vag group

Must be a German member here that might be able to help?

translate.google.com - doesn't do a bad job...

Unless you are a native speaker and read a product of such google translation :D

Very true..how is your German? Mine's lousy, so use google (and a disclaimer at the start of the email)..

SWMBO's "second native" lingo is German - I need to gather some more brownie points to make her translate my drivel ;)

I know this is not the latest article, so not the most up to date.

What i find interesting is some 'Comments' in that section.

Its odd the way that VAG keep, or actually as it is 'do not keep their customers informed on matters'.

Maybe a proper and truthful Media Release on all their Products, Faults and problems would help them get the correct Info out.

(There is a comment here on the vRS oil usage from 'vRS FAB')

I read that article and the quoted statement and I could not believe what I was reading! Seriously? Traffic, temperature and humidity??

I can take a lot but when somebody takes me for an idiot and tries to sell me such a lot of cobblers!

Disgusted...

Just about to go to Tesco for the weekly shop, and it's good news I can drive there free as a bird on the sunny open road...

...just a minute,in the four miles or so there are about ten sets of traffic lights and it's just started to **** it down, that's unusual for the UK!!!

I think we just have to stop driving altogether and just look at the damn thing - no risk of failure is there?
