Dash/fault lights

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

The other day I had the 'bulb' light start flashing on the dash, the following day I had the 'curly' light start flashing, I'm being told this could be a glow plug problem? Is this a common thing? The car will be taken to a mechanic friend but I need to use the car before I can get there next weekend

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

E

First thing. Do your brake lights work?

Hi Phil

Just checked and brake lights are not working

The high level brake light is behaving a little strange, it lights up when I brake when I'm not braking the outer part of the light, left and right is on constantly while the centre remains off

my glow plug light started flashing recently and it was the brake light switch ... not a hard job to do and the genuine switch was £11.30 from tps

I had a rear brake light switch replaced under warranty, it's out of warranty now.

Where abouts is the switch?

Ill go and check the bulbs

Bulbs are fine

just above the brake pedal you may have to drop the drivers side lower dash down but thats not such a big deal....

remove fuse box cover and i think there are 2 torx screws

push the sidelight switch in and put on the side lights the switch should then pull out

unclip wires

undo other torx screws under dash

there is one just under the steering column at top of the little cubby hole

the dash has 2 clips above the side light switch but they pull out easy enough and the dash drops down

you may have to pull off the air con pipe to the can cooler

unclip the block connector from the switch

the switch then twists 90' and pulls out

it will only go back in 1 way

re assembley is the opposite

shouldnt take any longer than 30mins if you take your time

Cheers holmesie,

Just been out to the car again and the battery is flat, car turns over but not enough I the battery to start,

Not sure if this is related or another problem, could it be a faulty glow plug draining the battery?

i seem to remember that the fabia has has common fault on an alternator wire that causes the battery to go flat ... i have not come across this yet so cant comment ..... i suppose the best way to tell is to get the car plugged in to vcds. there is a map in the vcds section you could possibly pm someone near you asking for a favour
