when to replace cambelt on a 2.0 tdi cr vrs

Featured Replies

Does anybody know the correct mileage to replace the cambelt please?

Different people are saying different things,

I am coming up to nearly 63k and still on the original belt.

four years or 80,000 miles mate

i did mine at 4 years but only had about 33000 mls on the clock. Just didn't want to take a chance of it going as i decided to keep the car.

someone's mentioned 120k on the cr engines im sure...

and 90 k on the pd vrs

When it is changed are there any other parts that should be changed as a precaution.. Water pump, tensioner????????

T/belt kit and water pump.

The genuine kit comes with a new tensioner and rollers and replacement studs/nuts for the tensioner and rollers.

You might as well replace the water pump, as It doesn't add much to the cost of the belt change.

Pick any mileage increment of between 60,000 miles and 120,000 miles and it has been put forward as a cambelt interval over the years.

To know for sure you can do one of two things.

1) Check the service book. On older cars this can be risky as advice / recommendations change over time.

2) Ring your local dealer / Skoda UK.

I've just done my PD vrs @ 70k. Reason was I bought the car on 69k, 2006 model and ive no idea if its been done before or not so had it done along with the water pump just incase

Thanks for the comments guys, as i thought a variation of answers. Cant seem to understand though why 4 years? Why dont they just state a mileage? surely a year shouldnt make that much difference?

prob age related wear.get a kit from dealers it has all d necessary bits and water pump just makes fiscal sense to do at same time.

its wear related.

A mate of mine has a NSX at his workshop atm with 33k on it from new in 1991. Its in desperate need for a cambelt

They degrade like all things made of rubber compound. Same with tyres, they dont last for ever

I contacted Skoda Customer Services about this and the reply on 19th March 2012 was every 4 years or 120,000 miles whatever comes first.

I had mine replaced at 110,000 miles with all fittings , new water pump and new aux. drive belt. It was done at a Skoda main dealer so got 2 years warrenty.

Thanks again, will look into getting it done.

Best get some quotes from different places before committing myself.

  • 1 year later...

I enquired for my Dec 2010 vrs cr and was told 120k and now 5yrs whichever first

The time interval has been recently extended from 4 to 5 years for cars built after September 2010.

Mileage limits remain unaffected.

How much is a cambelt change?
