DSG in other VAG's

Featured Replies

Audi mate their 7 speed Stronic DSG box to the 1.6 TDI in the new A3, but every other VAG mates this to the 6sp DSG. Anyone know why?

I've got an Octavia 1.6crd with 7 speed DSG

Presume you have a mk 2? Though the spec sheet said the dsg in this was a 6 speed but good news if they are now fitting the 7. Golf and Leon Both have the 6 speed according to their web sites

there are now 7 speed DGS's that can handle much bigger torques ;)

The 7 speed dry clutch dsg used in Skoda's is only rated for 250Nm of torque.

The earlier box is a 6 speed wet clutch which is rated for 350Nm of torque.

So the 7 speed is fitted to 1.6TDi's and petrols up to 1.8TSi. 2.0TDi's and 2.0TSi's have to be fitted with the 6 speed wet clutch.

There are newer designs coming through, some VW models now use a higher rated 7 speed dry clutch and this will eventually replace the 6 speed wet.

The wet clutch requires a fluid change every 40k miles or 4 years at £180 a time.

The above are all for front transverse engine layouts.

And there's also other DSG models for longitudinal engine layouts with much higher torque in the bigger VAG models.

I run a 6 wet and a 7 dry but not driven any dual clutch box that's as good as the ZF 8HP.
