Excel Help

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is really, really simple (and something I should be able to do given my part time job!), but it's defeating me.

I've got this data below, and I'm trying to get it into a scatter graph, which is all going fine until I get to the x-axis titles.

(I did try and paste this in, but the formatting went all weird!)

The best I can come up with is this:

graph.png

But ideally 1,2,3,4 would be replaced with 16-1, 16-2, 17-1, 17-2. If I try and change the data source on the graph, it's got the right values in showing, but they don't appear on the graph itself.

I've got a few other graphs with the same issue, and, like this one, they're all fine except for the data along the x-axis.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks,

Joe

Have you tried using a "line chart" rather than a "scatter chart"?

This isn't an issue I've ever had to deal with since I started using Golden Software's Grapher (now at at least version 8). Most Excel charting problems can be traced to the package being a jumped up accounting pad and not charting software.

Awesome, that's got it - thanks! Set the line to 'no colour'/'no line' and it's just as I need.

I'm not a huge Excel fan, but I've got a copy and know (sort of!) how to use it, so it'll do for this. I don't use it frequently enough to buy another piece of software, although that GSG does look pretty decent.

Yeah, I use Grapher for work, and it's paid for itself several times over in "how much faster we've done graphs for clients".

As this is a simple graph to show the standard deviation for a piece of uni work I imagine there'd be a pretty lengthy return on investment in my case!
