New Superb Owner

Hi all,

I'm a Brit living in Germany. After endless trouble with a Ford Focus I bought a Skoda Superb. Have to admit, I wasnt keen on it on a first look, but once I drove it fell in love!

It's an 05 1.9 TDI Comfort with 117,000 Km (about 75,000 miles). We wanted something big and comfy for driving back to the UK 4 or 5 times a year for which it's ideal!

Something that's confused me though. It has cruise control, but I can't seem to see a light or indicator that tells me when it's on. It works fine, but should it have some kind of light or symbol on the display that tells me when it's on or off? or is it just on when it's on and off when it's off?

I've searched the forum and google but can't seem to find an answer. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome, there is no light for the CC on the MKI.

Have you researched (and checked the car) for ‘water ingress’, if not then do it ASAP

That clears that up. Thanks

It had been sat in a showroom for some time so I wouldn't be able to see any water in gress (if the problem relates to outside water getting in as opposed to engine water getting in somehow?) Where should I keep an eye on it?

The pollen filter is under the windscreen scuttle trim (passenger side on a RHD car, I assume it will be passenger side on a LHD car as well?) you need to remove the rubber seal at the back of the bonnet and then lift this panel up, there are two rubber grommets under the battery that block up, then the water fills the plenum chamber and enters the car through the pollen filter seal and around the servo and bonnet release cable, this floods the car which buggers up the CECM which in turn makes many of the electrics stop working.

I am not 100% sure if LHD cars suffer as bad as RHD ones but I cannot see any reason why not.

Do a search for “water ingress” on the MKI Superb (or B5 Passat … it’s the same car with a shorter wheelbase)

Had a look this evening. No obvious signs. Looks pretty clean under the bonnet and no sign of current or previous damp in the back. Phew!

Hi and welcome aboard.
