Dreaded Service Now

Featured Replies

Dreaded pre programmed cars

The wife’s Yeti went in for its first synthetic oil change last year in Sept at Robinsons of Norwich and was stamped “Variable Mileage” and came back with clean oil.

Now at 18,500 miles it comes up with Service Now every time she turns on the ignition?

If her Yeti went in just a few thousand miles ago why should the service now come up at all? Unlike car manufactures I have a good memory and know when to change the oil just like my motorbike after 25 years of ownership.

Is there a quick simple way to clear this warning down on the dash panel or is this yet another forced way of having to pay the service dealer to plug in his laptop.

Am I missing out on something chaps with this enforced technology?

Hello,

You can reset the service reminder in the Maxidot display on the dashboard. I don't recall the exact way to do it, but its in there under setup or confiig or words to that effect. Sounds like the garage forgot to reset it when they serviced your Monster.

I do know it starts reminding you fairly early though, maybe 2k before the time is due to give you plenty of time to book it in.

Hope that helps

Simon

Sounds to me like the garage simply forgot to reset the computer.

Just pop back and they'll reset it in a jiffy.

when you say the car was serviced last year, did the car at that time ask for a service, or did you decide it was in need of one :wonder:

How old is the car by the way and how many miles have you covered from the last service :wonder: :wonder:

May be a simple case that the dealer forgot to reprogram the indicator or they have switched it to time and distance :wonder: :wonder: :wonder:

Oh forgot to say 18.5k is about right for the car to ask for it's first variable service or second time and distance, as the car actually works on km and converts it to miles for us traditional measurement :) types .

Hi Plumber

Will have to speak to the wife when she gets in tonight to check if it actually came up with service now last August.

Went in for oil service and filter on the 3rd Aug 2012 with 12,678 miles on the clock having now checked the actual dates for you.

Apparently started to come up with service now at 18,500 miles on the clock.

Yeti reg on the 31st May 2011 at Colchester Skoda Branch in Essex.

On the actual invoice it states: Carry out complimentary Vehicle Health Check.

This was the first time it actually went in for a service apart from the misses getting a silver necklace caught around the steering wheel column and when the wheel was turned right round the horn went off on cornering.

Clever technicians at Robinsons found the fault and returned the misses silver necklace that had shorted out the contacts, new one to me?

Cars are like women aren't they? Sometimes the missus asks for a service and sometimes I decide she's in need of one.

Car now approaching 50k miles ... and SWMBO has a few miles on the clock too

Blimey, that must have been good oil!

..............

The North Sea air and the skiing didn't have any effect, it seems!

Sounds like cars on variable and not been reset since factory then, as she's (Yeti that is) will be two years this year and accumulated the mileage required for a first variable service.

Oh did you by new or pre owned and the health check invoice; Colchester or Norwich dealers and which supplied the car to you; apologies 'bad hair day' so struggling to follow the chain of events :wonder:

Back again Plumber

Yeti was bought brand new from Colchester Skoda with zero miles on the clock as the sales boys at Robinsons of Norwich refused to drop a penny from the RRP.

Instant price drop from the Colchester dealer so went there out of the Norfolk price fix for all makes of cars when paying cash only.

Yeti's first service was at Robinsons of Norwich as they are local and not some 70 miles away.

No stones yet in the brake calliper casting on the front. Swear she drives onto the beach on the quite just to give me another job.

Under Vauxhall Combo today for a new oil change and filter, no re - setting on my Combo van which has not given any problems over 9 years. Hope Yeti does as well.

from what your saying I'm fairly convinced the indicator has not been reset from factory; missed when the oil change was carried out. So the only mystery is why your good lady had the car serviced in August :wonder:

Only had limited dealings with Robinson's; bought my first Skoda 4x4 from them, a rare Octy I hatch on a 52 plate (their demo), although the chassis number suggested she had been unregistered for nearly a year. Had to go back, as a repair to the front bumper had been bogged rather than done properly for collection day :S P/X'd it nearly three years later to Simpsons down the road; more interested and costumer friendly outfit, mind I couldn't settle with the Octy II TDI 140 we bought from there and let it go quite quickly (felt to heavy and cumbersome).
